Hi Elaine,
It is often terrible to hear these things, and I am sorry you have to suffer and endure them from your daughter, as I have seen the impact on families surrounding PTSD. It is like watching a drug addicts family diminish, to put an even perspective upon it.
You need to get your daughter to see a trauma specialist, someone who is an expert in the field of trauma, and not just a doctor playing guessing games with your daughters well-being.
Jump into your phonebook, find a veterans support center, ring them, and ask them if they know of a civilian trauma therapist / trauma center within you location, someone who deals in all trauma, not just military (most deal with everyone in trauma), as this will put you in a more direct path to find a professional who knows what the hell they are dealing with, and not stuff you, your daughter, or family around in immediate help and assessment.
Your daughter needs to identify she has a problem, and how that problem is affecting everyone else, her included, and the iminent outcome that could prevail if not treated effectively, ie. hospitalization, suicide, and many other disorders and problems that the brain can create for us. If your daughter has suffered trauma though, she needs an expert in trauma to help get some of the initial help moving, because chances are, she is in denial, will remain in denial, and knows no different unless she accepts something is wrong. |
