Default Hi, I'm New - Healing in Body and Mind

Hello all -

My name is Katherine, though online I go by wolfalohalani, which is a play on my last and middle names.

I have had PTSD for a long time, officially diagnosed in 1994, from my parents working out their rather substantial psychological issues on their children. I've been in therapy off and on most of that time, and I got very much better.

Recently, I developed some scary neurological symptoms which were first diagnosed as MS, then as cervical myelopathy, a narrowed spinal canal in my neck which was compressing my spinal cord. I had surgery about a month and a half ago, which was very successful, and is healing up nicely.

However, I've started having PTSD symptoms again, including little flashes of moments during the surgery itself. No pain, thank goodness, but some sounds, sensations, and the feeling of being intubated, which was rather unpleasant. These sensations are associated with a great deal of fear.

I have a session of EMDR scheduled later this week, thank goodness. I'm also managing the intrusive anxiety with mindfulness meditation, but find that it's difficult to watch the anxiety without getting pulled into it.

Anyway, that's where I am today, still healing, in both body and mind.
