a poem when down to pick me up He Will Shelter Me
When despair rises up around my soul
Must I succumb to the depths below?
Christ alone can rescue me from the flood,
Paying for my sin, with His shed blood.
When waves of sorrow are over my head,
And thoughts of the past fill me with dread,
As I look to Christ, I see where I stand.
I am so weak; it's all in His hands.
When the temptor tries to burden my soul,
If I allow him to take control,
He'll fill my heart with such sorrow and strife,
And make me desire to end my life.
Then Christ gently prods me to remember:
To Him my heart I have surrendered.
Because I am His, my soul can be free.
As now, in His love, He will shelter me.
