New Member and Child - Both With PTSD Hello everyone. My name is Lily, I'm from Ohio. I have suffered from PTSD since 2003. I am a survivor of a severe DV/assault and attempted murder, perpertrated my husband at the time. My eldest son witnessed the event and has also been diagnosed with PTSD but w/dissociative symptoms. My ex-husband wasn't arrested because he fled the scene before police arrived. To this day, he continues to seek us out to stalk us. My son and I didn't seek treatment until October 2007 when he started acting out in school due his anxieties about his father hurting me. So far, therapy has been helpful. But my therapist is out for a month due to the grave health issues of her parent. Although she gave me access to a stand-by, I will wait, as I have built a trust with her and it just wouldn't be the same. So I am here. What are my expectations with joining this forum? I hate to feel alone and feel judged. Which is why it was so difficult for me to talk about my feelings or the traumatic event all these years. I feel isolated because I don't know anyone with PTSD (other than my son) or anyone that can even relate to the toll my symptoms have on my mind, body, and relationships. What I hope for is simply understanding. Being a new member, I am in moderation, so I probably will not see the welcomes and hellos. But don't fret, I will see them eventually.... I plan on being here for a while. |
