Autumn in the Country

As the autumn wind
Whistles down the lane,
Fallen leaves scamper...
Leap-frog is their game!

Leaves not yet fallen
Shiver as it blows.
'Fraid to fall, it seems.
Do you think they know?

Laughter travels now
From a distant place.
Happy chatter comes,
Echoes of a race!

Squirrels hurry now,
Seeking their treasure.
Get enough to last!
More for good measure!

Now here in the country
Autumn's in full swing.
Leaves go a' dancing
Acorns go ker-pling!
