View Full Version : Chat Officially Functioning

The online chat is now officially all good to go. The problems people have experienced was due to the integration of the coding into the forum database, so member access is integrated directly with your existing data, no extra input.
The system is currently only available to certain persons who have met certain criteria upon the forum, being a combination of days registered, posts and reputation score. If you don't meet these, then the system will not give you access. So basically, all angles are covered to ensure people are posting legitimately to get access to the chat system, and not merely relying on "x" number of posts, which could all be just BS to get access.
Using days registered allows informed decisions to be made, and allows reputation to be passed positively or negatively if the user is posting honestly and not just trying some spammy nonsense to get access.
The chat is heavily moderated, with over 10 moderators to kick or ban a user if they spam the chat, or abuse the chat.
Ensure you read the chat rules (http://www.ptsdforum.org/thread1046.html) if you have access, or else your chat lifespan will be very short.
No, requests for access are a standing denied! The chat system is for those who define themselves as wanting to be part of the community, and not just for the world to abuse or use for personal chit chat with non PTSD related persons.

Been trying to access chat. It let me in yesterday, but there was nobody home! Tried today but keep getting message "fatal error - could not connect to server". Is that a problem my end????? Normal forum stuff is accessible. Brain not up to thinking too much about technical stuff (not that this is anything unusual!).

That error is out of my hands as the software is reliant upon a third party server at this stage until enough funds are sort to purchase the US$4500 software, upgrade the server and install it all so it is not reliant upon another third party. If you get it, just close it and go to login again...

I'm not seeing a "submit" or "enter" button to get into the chat anymore...???

Just close it YA, then open it again. It would merely be a delay between your system and the flash media server needed to run the system. This is what getting the software and having it installed locally with the forum is about, as this one aspect of the entire PTSD Forum, is the only one that relies on a third party, and they are never reliable IMHO. Atleast if the board is down, so is the chat, and vice versa, never one or the other.

Anthony, I have been trying since I last posted...
I even tried on 3 different computers
Still no "enter" button :(

Just checked it, and it seems to be working fine YA. It would be a system issue at your end in regard to allowing Flash objects, ie. not the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player, software firewall such as Norton, or browser settings, etc.

LOL... it gets like that. When I actually rollout the new board, I am going to organise as part of it weekly chat sessions, or even twice weekly, ie. mid week and weekend.

Cookie chat can be scary. You go in chat about movies... you take one someone pointed out and decided to rent it and after 20 minutes you are about to hurl, then start laughing at clingwrap kitty cats being packed to go, realize how twisted you are and look over to see in some parts your hubs is in tears laughing at some of the same shit. Then you are left thinikng am I crazy or are hubs and I both???? LMAO, Yes I watched it Anthony, and twisted was a very mild way to put it. I will keep that in mind ney time! But the acting from the guy and the films pushing the envelope was put together very well!

I have an irrational fear or mild phobia, about chatting to people I have never met face to face. Not sure where that comes from. Anyways I'm going to try coming to the chat later on today but I hope no one will be offended if I can't handle it and need to bow out suddenly.

Well I just wanted to say I really enjoyed the chat and am looking forward to the next one. I did MUCH better than I thought I would, I was only afraid for the first few minutes and then I was fine. Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome and comfortable.

Your welcome batgirl... and thank you for taking the step outside your comfort zone and trying something new. It really is quite refreshing to talk with all those here in real time, have instant answers, discussions and relax with friends. Thank you again.

I thought it was fun too - well worth the late night - it was a Saturday, after all!!
Sorry I missed the chat but I have to ask- cingwrap cats? Are we talking about "bad boy bubby"?

yep... I really tried not to laugh at some of it. No luck, just further proof I am a bit deranged I guess LOL. Like I needed proof!
Got to admit it found some of it funny too! Hubby use to live around where it was filmed & has had a few sessions at the pub that some of it was filmed in. He went to take me there one night but it was closed due to renovations. It's only about 30mins away from where we live. Still haven't gone there yet, should put that on my to-do list.
