Nic sent me this today... piss funny I think. Are you addicted to coffee?

http://mingle2.com/bb/view/how-addicted-to-coffee-are-you

I scored 63%

Shit, I have to be addicted to something, considering I gave up cigarettes, pretty much don't drink alcohol much nowadays... have to have something to look forward too each day I figure.... (apart from Nic)

PS. Had to add the in brackets as she will tell me it otherwise... shut the door before it opened basically... :poke:

I love coffee and I used to drink as much as 20 cups a day but I had to quit cold turkey before I started my cancer treatment. I wasn't allowed to have caffeine. I had bad withdrawals for over a week... migraine headaches, aching all over my body and sweats. I still love coffee but I only drink decaf now.

I took the test as if I was still drinking coffee (which I'm not anymore except decaf occasionally) and I scored 85%! I was pretty badly addicted.

I scored 73% I think I will go have a coffee.

Yikes, I scored 69%! I only have 2-3 cups in the morning, though I admit I'd drink it all day if I could handle the caffeine anymore. And I like it really strong, bordering on Turkish coffee, so I can't do as much. I probably went through two pots a day when I was at school.

Ohh god, you guys are little league! LOL

I scored 94% (I figure their numbers run low...)

Hehe.. you should see me without coffee! It's my bad habit and I know it!

I guess I'm a light weight in the coffee category. I scored a 48%. Although when I was at my most coffee drinking stage (when I was in the army) I'd probably be up around Bec's level.

79% for me. On the bad days, I drink coffee at home, from Starbucks, and again at work. Too much.

I am trying to cut back to just one mug at home. I've bought decaf so I can have the ritual without the caffeine!

Isn't drinking coffee to this degree another form of self medicating? I dont like coffee but I used to drink coke a lot. I gave it up but have recently fallen off the wagon!
I gave it up in an attempt to get better sleep. Its a stimulant after all. I was already massively hyper all on my own without any extra help.

So here's a question, why do you guys all drink so much coffee?

Cole

83% for me. It's probally gone down since Bec moved. I got a job at Timmy's to support my habit and people like Bec keep my job safe!!!LOL

So here's a question, why do you guys all drink so much coffee?

Well, for me it's mostly in the morning that I drink coffee. It helps me wake up and function. Yeah, another addiction...probably. But without it I'm pretty much a royal bitch in the morning. More so than usual anyway. More than 3 cups and my stomach gets upset so my body sets the limit to what I drink.

If I have a headache I try to drink some coffee along with taking acetametaphin or ibuprofen. It helps for some reason.

I'm working on getting to your level bec.... maybe if I grind my own at home or have an expresso machine here or the like... that might improve my score I dare say!!!

Because I'm up all night, scared. I rarely drink coffee after ten in the morning, but I guzzle it until then to get my butt going for work. When I'm home in the summers, I just have one mug--but I'm mightly slow moving and sleepy for most of the day.

Why do we drink so much coffee???? 2 things I can think about.

1) I was an alcoholic, and usually when you are in recovery for some reason, coffee with tons of sugar is the choice.

2) I am a B**** on wheels without it. Not even human. Don't talk to me, look at me, or breath around me in the morning until I have had at least 2 cups....

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm coffee

Yes... but shit, I have given up everything else, ie. coca cola by the bucket load, smokes, rarely alcohol... gotta die of something. Even those who are fitness fanatics, you could say are addicted to fitness, which is bad in itself and has killed lots of people, yet people don't see fitness as a bad thing, yet it can if abused.

Everything can be abused, but I believe it has to do with the severity off which counts a lot. If someone says to me they smoke or drink alcohol all day, that is bad... but if they drink tea, coffee, water, cordial, etc all day, that is far better than smoking or alcohol IMHO.

Claire

Yeah, i totally agree Anthony and yes not a bad vice to have! The only thing I think is silly is when people drink caffeine all day and then have sleep problems. PTSD is bad enough without exaggerating some of its symptoms willingly.

Love that line! Said it a lot myself. I don't smoke, no partying, no drugs, one beer and I'm ready for nighty-night. Hell, I even limit my intake of sugar. All I have left is coffee!

I've always said the two vices I won't give up are my coffee and my cussing. Of all of the habits I picked up in the army, those are the two that stuck. LOL

Well, given what I have read to date and the fact that I don't drink coffee or coke, rarely drink alcohol, don't smoke and don't do drugs I think I need to find myself an addiction :loopy:

Interesting though, I used to drink about 12 cups of coffee a day when one morning I made the usual cup and it made me throw up. For 3 -4 months after that I could not be in the same room as someone making coffee or drinking it as the smell made me nauseous. It's years down the track now and while I can make a coffee for someone if I try and drink it I spend hours shaking being unable to write with a pen or type. Apparently, for no obvious reason, a substance can build up in your system and then one day you just overload!

Totally agree Claire, well said. I don't have sleep problems, but if I did, I wouldn't drink coffee. I go to bed with nic every night, get up with her in the morning. We both usually work or watch some tv together until 9 - 10pm, then bed.

I am a night owl, though coffee doesn't do it to me. Whether I drink it or not, I can stay up all night, every night if required, and live on a few hours sleep. I believe that is more the 10 years military that did that to me. But I drink coffee all day, no issues sleeping... feel great.

I must agree though, that if anyone drinks a lot of coffee and they have sleep problems, maybe you want to try giving it up and seeing whether sleep improves or not... take up another addictive trait that isn't too harmful to yourself... ie. not alcohol or drugs.

I am at 0% right now as I could not even do the test since I have been off for a long time now due to anxiety and doctor's orders. Drank coke 4-5 times in the last year. But back then... I took it for that time and it was 83%. I truly cannot understand how y'all can take this into your system. It sent my symptoms all over.

And judging by bec's video screen... She keeps that coffee shop up there in business!

Hehe, they all know me by name... Everyone on every shit! Yep I should own shares!

And yes I am one of those that drinks coffee and has sleep problems. Believe it or not, but I've been cutting back on my caffeine for years now. I've gone from any where around 8 pots a day to under two now.

Now if only I could get rid of my bedtime cup, I would be doing good! I get this weird craving for a cup of Timmys (and it has to be Timmy's not homemade or from anywhere else) at about midnight every night. Have no idea why. This is the hardest cup to get rid of!! LOL

Bec, if you have cut back though, and lets say you cut the before bed coffee and don't drink it say.... two hours prior to going to bed; do you believe it affects your sleep or not? I drink the stuff all day and it doesn't affect my sleep. I go to bed around 9 - 10 nowadays, wakeup at 5 - 7am in the morning... depending on what I have on any given day.

becvan
28-08-2007, 03:33 PM
I have cut it out.. even for entire evenings for weeks at a time and I find it makes no damn difference at all. Still have the same sleep problems. It's frustrating actually cause I constantly hear that I need to "cut the coffee" and I will sleep and it just doesn't work.

Then maybe its just not the coffee for you, like myself. Coffee wasn't the cause for me not sleeping... damn anxiety caused by trauma was.

Caffeine depleits the calcium in bones, and it makes cysts in breast tissue, uteruses (uteri?), overies, all over the place where I don't want cysts.

Do decaf.

OK, I cannot blame coffee for sleep issues, but anxiety, jumpiness, buzzed... They don't seem much better off but once I try to drink again they are so much worse.

Claire

I think its because your body gets used to it so you dont feel the effects so much. I wasn't aware of how much caffiene effected me until i stopped drinking it. I had a headache for about a week and now when I drink coke I feel it pretty much straight away. Guess everyone's tolerance is different. If I have a coke now I try not to have one after 3pm. That way I hope its out of my system by bedtime. It just makes sense, no stimulants before bed is my rule. Alcohol makes my dreams much worse too.
