I'm proud to announce the birth of my son, Leo Craig, born Aug. 31, 2007 at 12:10pm after a quick 5 1/2 hour labor. He is 22 inches long and a whopping 9 lbs.!

My water broke early morning at 6:30am and by 7:30am, I was indeed getting uncomfortable! I called my midwife and unfortunately, she was at another birth and that client seemed more likely to deliver quicker than I, so she suggested that I pack up and come down to her Birth Center where she could keep an eye on both of us. The only bad thing was that the birth center was two hours away and I was dreading the drive with contractions coming about every two minutes. Indeed I was right...IT WAS HELL!!! We arrived at the Birth center at 11:30 am and I promptly got into the tub. I was complete (fully dilated) by 12:08, and after 1 1/2 pushes, he was here, born in water; naturally.

Leo decided he was going to be born quickly, but he was in no hurry to breathe. So we took him to get some labs drawn and was seen by a doctor who then called the ambulance so that he could be transported to the nearest hospital where he was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. There, we found that he had an infection which I probably gave him during the birth. He is being treated with antibiotics and he is doing very well.

While he was doing well, I was slipping down hill and fast. I ended up with a fever the day after I delivered and popped (separated) my pubic bone. This feels like being hacked by an ax! I was seen by a Chiropractor and was also put on antibiotics since I now had the same infection that Leo has.

It is now Day 3, and we are both doing much better. I'm out of the wheelchair, and walking slowly but still sitting on a special cushion. Leo is nursing well and I've already shrunk back to my pre-preg weight. I was all baby....

We expect to be home by Friday...

Keep us in your thoughts....and thank you for those of you who have been very concerned about me. I'll post pics soon.

Huge congratulations Nam! I believe this is your first boy? A quick delivery is good in some ways and difficult in others... one of my quick deliveries (2.5 hours) resulted in a fourth degree tear. The pubic bone popping sounds excruciating, glad to know you are feeling somewhat better now. Losing all your weight so quickly must feel wonderful! I do hope you continue to feel better and enjoy the precious new little one!

The pics are coming really soon...I promise! Hubs is taking a little while to get an account going with all his pics on it.

Leo is doing great and I'm hoping (please hope with me!) that he will be transferred out of this hospital and in one closer to home so that I can take care of my girls too. Besides, no bed is as good as my bed. This could be as early as tomorrow. Unfortunately, I may have to get my mean face on in order for it to get done.

I'm also feeling much better. My pelvis has been aligned by an awesome chiro everyday and it has done a world of difference...especially in my walk. The fact I can walk is a miracle.

I'm amazed at how much little Leo looks like my hubs. I'm more sure he's his kid than is mine...and trust me, I was there when he was born! Supposedly, I'm supposed to have the dominate genes: dark hair, dark eyes, etc....but it looks like the german genes won this one! Leo has dark blond to light brown hair and lighter eyes. The only feature that is mine on him is his nose (thank goodness). Am I a proud mama? Um yes....sorry for rambling!

Dang it, Nam... Babies always make me cry. Just sitting over here grinning ear to ear for you with tears in my eyes. He is so beautiful and I know you must be proud. Now one 9lber mommy to another, don't be shocked when people think he is 3 months old at a week or two old! And get ready to return the newborn stuff. I hope you did not pull tags off.

Oh Nam, he is gorgeous! He's got a mane just like a lion too! (matches his name!)

I hope you get to go home soon! I also have hips that pop (but mine do it all the time, all by themselves) and know the relief the chiro can provide so I'm glad to hear that's helping!

We're home..finally! After ten days of being in the NICU with my son, all of us are back at home. It's sort of bitter sweet, being at home. I thought I'd relax and such, but found that the laundry and dishes were piled high and my girls have been returned to me completely spoiled by their grandparents! They are so naughty!

Leo is doing great. He is so sweet and I'm realizing I'm loving being a "boy mommy". LOL. He's a very content baby and only fusses when he's hungry (just like his daddy). The antibiotics he was on gave him a skin infection (yeast) and so we've been battling that and I'm still healing but getting better.

After all the soul searching and digging for the root of my fears, I feel awesome. There's nothing like overcoming fear and knowing I did a job well done.
