I want to know if fluorescent lighting affects/triggers anxiety in others. I know it increases anxiety attacks in me and in turn panic attacks.

Yep - makes me want to just start screaming or curl up in a ball under something. Joyful anxiety/PTSD. =\

I voted yes but that I can deal with it for a while... because I am getting a bit better about it when I need to go to hospital. There are flourescent lights in the waiting areas and examination rooms... but if I have to deal with it for more than a couple of hours I have a very hard time.

I remember the day fluorescent lights were first installed in my school. No one else seemed to HEAR them. The ones that bother me are the ones that flicker a lot, and the ones that hum. I hear a lot of high-pitched noises that other people don't. Appliances can really bug me too.

That is most interesting Tina, thank you for sharing. My daughter also hears lights and various appliances and it disturbs her.

She's not alone, Kathy. I was in my twenties before I met someone else who heard the lights and was annoyed by them. Have also discovered that turning the lights down before bedtime helps me sleep, and turning them on in the morning helps me get going. Though I've never been a napper, I fell fast asleep during a power outage, once. I think there's a pretty direct physiological relationship with light and sound that some people are more sensitive to than others.

Fluorescent lights bother me because it makes everything look so surreal which reminds me of when I feel anxious or disconnected. I find it hard to concentrate in this lighting or to focus on things. I thought it was just me!
