On monday I am headed back to work. Yesterday I wasn't nervous at all but today after reading a few threads, I'm a little worried.

All those stupid voices in my head: telling me I'm not any better, I'm going to crash and burn, That I'm going to go back to working like a dog.

I'm worried that I have just stuffed everything back down and someday something is going to trigger it again and I'll be right back to where I was 8 weeks ago.

God I hope I'm well enough, I don't want to go back to being a workalcoholic. I don't want to forget that:

I am more important then the store I run.

Theres alot more to me then being a good store manager.

I don't have to fix the problems overnight.

I'm stressing myself out just writing about it....wish me luck and keep me in your prayers...thanks, Holly

Holly,

Like Lisa said, one step at a time. I would suggest a lot of counting under your breath, making faces when no one is looking, and mini breaks. Good luck, and YOU are important.

Holly, I agree, your stressing yourself before you get there. In your above you write a negative to then state you need to remember the positives. That says your not focused on the positives, but your in a lot of self doubt which is causing you stress. When you learn to believe in your positives and remove your self doubt, you will typically find you have much less or no stress surrounding an incident, event or situation. It really is about what you believe vs. what you just tell yourself. You must believe what your telling yourself, otherwise you fail before you begin.

Just remember, focus on you and enjoy the return to work. Don't fear it, enjoy that you are able to work, the interaction with others, the choice. They are all good things.

You're very impressive Holly ... very impressive. Being a store manager is not a small accomplishment. You've already shown that you can do this. Is it possible to take a little break if things start to pile up? Is there some kind of "treat" that you can take with you to indulge when you need a diversion? I don't know what would work for you, but I know I've had the same feelings, and I'm usually way harder on myself than others would be.
But ... congratulations on the return to work and the great job!

Anthony, that was a great way of stating that. I appreciate that. You are all so helpful to EVERYONE who reads this stuff. I'm happy to be able to read your messages and receive insights and encouragements from all of you. Holly (my name is Holly also), this message comes quite late, but I am certain you grew from returning to work. That growth (and getting out there in the thick of it) is marvelous. Great job and keep growing and going forward.
