Hey Jen, When you start a new thread for a poll, make sure you click the box at the bottom that asks if you want this to be a poll. I think then you hit submit, then you should be able to put your options above in a poll format. I think. Good luck!

I had to think back to before I had gastric cancer (which is different than IBS obviously), but before the cancer I did have attacks of IBS and they could last 4 or more days, so that's what I voted for.

I have pretty much controlled my IBS with diet now. I avoid food that triggers it. Its not fool proof but I very rarely need medication to help with the symptoms now.

I have had mine for well over a year (more like years) that it acts up. Medication, diet, health supplements do not control mine. Still working on it though!

I guess I am confused buy the options. You know IBS is not a just day to day thing. I know stress poos are but not IBS. IBS is well, IBS. I have days of normal. Those are cool LOL. But IBS can make you shit your pants and at times make you suck it up so far it shows no sign of coming out for a week. 1-4 days is just not a description from my experience. Mine has swung both ways for days on end commonly as well, that is just what IBS does.

I voted more than 4 days because I've been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome... thus I have it every day! Mostly it is "controlled" by laxative (as I suffer mostly constipation ended IBS), which means that basically, instead of constipation, I have diarhea every day (yep, been to doc about that. Apparantly I've got to find the dosage balance myself, except the dosage requirement changes every day depending on my bowels!).

However, I don't suffer half as much pain as I used to. I used to have very severe chronic IBS, crippling cramps every day after eating. I can honestly say I suffered at least two of the following every day for the first 3 years before being diagnosed finally: cramps, constipiation (or diarhea), nausea, wind (not nice) etc. etc. Thank god it's not so bad now...

Veiled, the question actually fits the options, being: "How Many Days in Succession Have You Had IBS?" Yes, IBS changes as you describe, though that is not being debated here. It is a clear question surrounding the symptom off IBS. The only option which is not present which I will add now you have questioned this, is the placebo factor, being "Do Not Have IBS."

If you have had it longer than 4 days in succession, then that is your answer. The other answers are there for personal choice only. I actually selected (3), because whilst I have been diagnosed in conjunction with my PTSD, IBS, I actually have not had IBS longer than a few days at once because it also factors not only on stress but diet. Yes, I could choose more than (4) because I have been diagnosed with it, but the symptom of IBS itself I do not suffer daily. You can be stressed all you like, but if your diet is actually quite good than you can avoid IBS at times.

I will add the placebo factor though now as your question did bring that to mind.

The longer I am on this forum and investigate the more amazed I become to find the answers and solutions and explantions for what ails me.

I voted 4 or more days. I truely thought that this problm was just "MY" bodys' way of dealing with my stress. Had no idea the rest of you, or at least some of you have the same problem. I am so happy! ! !

I know it sounds a little silly to be glad you guys have the s--ts just like me, but knowing why things are happening takes the fear out of them.

So cool, another frightening problem handled, sorta! Still got the problem but at least I understand it know Thanx again guys

This is interesting thanks guys!
Hubby has it for 4 or more days at a time. He does have stomach issues after contracting typhoid when he was in Somalia.
But there is a definite pattern when he is stressing over something you can bet a couple of days later his IBS kicks in.
His GP said to him last week and I was there to listen that it is stress related.
Hubby said to GP that he thinks it is his diet.
GPs response " Its your head mate"

I have had watery diarreah since 29 November.

When I was 22 I went 28 straight days without a bowel movement. That's my personal record. <curtsey>

I only questioned if they knew IBS. I guess I assumed they thought IBS was a once in a while thing by how the question was phrased. Flare ups of bad times seemed to be it. But like PTSD IBS never leaves but luckily you can have good days. Unfortunately diet does not always play a role. For several days you cannot be more than 5 ft from a potty and sometimes for days you cannot make plumbing work for a good week. Most complaints are when poos go crazy not much mention of when you go a week and think you need to go to doc to fish out!
