Google "Veterans Affairs Canada" and "bluecross", and you ought to come up with the section of Canada's website on the topic of medical coverage for Veterans here ( the VAC homepage is vac-acc.gc.ca ).
My Dad was a Veteran and through BlueCross he and his wife/widow received considerable medical benefits. The program was and perhaps still is: an annual deductible of $60 followed by 80% of all claimable medical expenses being reimbursed (if there's a pensionable injury issue involved, this is considerably expanded, but otherwise the coverage is quite respectable).
This is in addition to our Provinces' individual healthcare programs which are quite good, but often have notable gaps in coverage.
