Substance Abuse and PTSD

I haven't seen many threads yet on substance abuse and I can't be the only one or am I ? When my anger, depression, flashbacks and all of the other symptoms I was having started, the doctor told me I was having post partum depression and clinical depression. He prescribed xanax and lots of it. Once I discovered that a few pills more than prescribed made me numb inside; enough to get through each day anyway, that was it. I got hooked on anything that helped me get through the day. That was almost three years ago. I have been clean since. yeah. So has anyone else here had these issues ? If so, how have you dealt with it ? Thanks/Chrissy It has been getting alot harder and I took a clonopin last week. Thats not good for me, help.

Yes, a lot of the people on the forum have substance abuse issues. I used to drink alcohol every night from the time I was 17 until 20. Then stopped for several years and started back up for another year or two.

Then I was in a car accident and got addicted to Demerol. I stole bottle of it and almost overdosed.

It's hard to get Demerol so I just delt with it. The alcohol urges usually only come on around my trauma anniversary.

I do take narcotics but only if I have to. I think you just have to decide that you only take them when needed instead of everyday.

I found the Threads on the site right after I wrote that, I've also been extremely hooked (daily for years) on narcos and benzo's. It is A daily battle for sure. Chrissy
