Today my brother-in-law called and wanted to take my daughter sledding. I drove her over to his house and asked if I could go.

We had so much fun sledding and then I decided I wanted to try to snow board. So my BIL let me use his board and I practiced. I wiped out quite a few times but didn't get hurt to bad. However, I will feel it in the morning LOL

Finally, I was able to start at the top of the hill and make it to the bottom without wiping out. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would learn to snow board.

I haven't been sledding in over 20 years. This was so great to have had this experience with my daughter. I am so happy!

I never thought I would sled again because I can't tolerate the cold. But I just decided that when I was to cold I would leave. Oddly enough my BIL was the first one to say it's time to go. I thought for sure it would be me.

Peace
Tammy

I'm glad you had fun! I'm a skiier, (and have been since I was two years old). There's nothing like that feeling of you and the mountain...I compare it to flying. I always feel so free when the wind is blowing through my hair...it makes me forget about everything else.

Well done Tammy! You are braver than me, I would never get on a snowboard though it is something my younger children and grandchildren love.

Tammy,

Just doing something fun, and that can bring back a little bit of your childhood is so fun.... I'm glad that you had a good time.

I wouldn't get on a snowboard either......I am a chicken shit, and admit to it.

I just read this and I am so happy you were able to do this....kind of made me sad because I can't do anything physical right now and if I were to do something like this and fall the wrong way I could be paralyzed. Sorry.....just a downer issue for me I guess. Be thankful for your able body....I would give anything to be able to do physical activities again.....

Well done Tammy. Definitely lifts one's spirits to do activities with children and youngsters!

Awesome Tammy! I'm a snowborder myself, best advice I can give is most of the time you want to be on an edge.

It seems like this could've been a success story. Good for you. It sounds like a lot of fun.

Take care, Morgan

How cool of you.

Since I am a hermit from Florida I can only guess what your experience was like. The closest I can get is water sking. Trust me, this ole gal would never survive that sport again.

I want what ever you are taking. Piano--snow boarding--what next.

OH OH OH ! ! ! I got one up on you(and I hate people who do this but I'm gonna do it anyway)

I actually did a sky dive! Only "1" but I did it. I jumped out of a perfectly good air plane. That, while tramatizing, was frightening and cool at the same time. I don't however recommend it

But anyway glad you are beginning to live and have some fun. Keep up the good work

Hi Morgan, I thought it was a success story and put in that group but it was moved to general chat. It felt like a huge success even to go sledding because I don't like to leave the house and I hate the cold.

Thanks everyone, I'm very happy with what I accomplished. I never in a million years dreamed I would be on a snow board. (I will never jump out of a plane some one will have to push me LOL)

I'm very lucky to be able to do this as I know that Pandora mentioned she couldn't. That made me realize that I take a lot of things for granted and I should get out and live my life more often before it's too late.

I was in a car accident that almost took my life and I'm in pain most of the time. I have severe arthritis in the bones that were broken.

As a result of wiping out on that snow board I am in pain today. But thats OK because I don't regret for one minute what I did. The pain is worth it, and the pain reminds me of what I accomplished yesterday.

Peace
Tammy

Hi upstream, what do you mean by "I want to be on an edge"? I went to the local park that doesn't have hills like the mountains people ski on.

I started off by getting on the board half way down the hill until I felt I could maintain balance. Then I started going to the top of the hill and kept sliding down until I finally did it with out crashing.

I went on a hill that was all snow and no ice because if you crash on the ice it hurts real bad.

If you point the board straight down the hill and keep it completely flat with the ground, you are not on an edge. From this position, if you point the board to the right of "straight down" and then lean to the right, you will be on an edge... meaning the right edge of the board will be in contact with the snow on the ground, and the left edge of the board will not be in contact with the snow in the ground.

So you will be traveling down hill on a diagonal. You can then lean left, and swing your back leg out so that the board will now be pointing to the left of "straight down."

If you point your board straight down the hill and keep it flat, you are more likely to "catch an edge" and wipe out. It will look and feel like you were tripped.

I did a youtube search on "snowboarding beginner" ...this person does a good job of staying on edge. In the beginning she has the board perpendicular to the slop grade and is leaning back. Let's call this "putting on the brakes." Also she has her left leg back, this is called riding "goofy." Most people snowboard with their right leg back, which is called "regular."

Hope that helps...

Thanks upstream,

I will check that out. I don't know if we will have any more snow. What we did have has melted already.

Anyway, I hope I can go at least one more time before winter is over. It seems every year it gets harder and harder to leave the house.
