I don't know where to post this. I was diagnosed with PTSD, but I don't believe it's accurate. I think the person assessing me just used the most common category. I've never felt hostile, combative, argumentive and I have always been a homebody. Why is that considered socially unacceptable?

Are you hypervigilant? Feel like your nervous system is fighting a war? Abuse? Check out the symptoms.
Sometimes you don't get hostile or anger until you start facing whatever the trauma is. I know I started really raging then.
We call this being numb....Why did you go to therapy, if I can ask?

Two doctors referred me for psychological testing. One thought I suffered from depression or anxiety and the other thought I was having paranoid thoughts or anxiety. I thought I was suffering from beginning stages of alzheimers. Neither of my doctors did any tests for the alzheimers or possibly ADD.
I am also new to the area and think I may be suffering culture shock. I can't believe the differences between two states - as if I am in another country speaking the wrong language.

Hi,
I wouldn't call PTSD a common category. Many of us have been mis-diagnosed earlier in our lives, prior to our PTSD diagnosis, as having Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Bi Polar, and Panic Disorder. There is a fairly strict guideline for a PTSD diagnosis.
However, if you feel you have not been diagnosed correctly, you should seek a second opinion by a professional.
Best,
Rachel
