The last two times I watched a scary movie I had a panic attack. I used to be able to watch them and not have any problems.
I was wondering if this is happening because I'm not taking anti-depressants any longer or if I just can't handle the fear as well as I used to.
I'm hoping this will pass because I do enjoy some scary movies if they have an interesting plot.
Has anyone had this happen to them and if so what are your thoughts on why you can't watch scary movies any more.

I have more of a problem watching the news with all its "a body was found in the woods today" or something about murder, fire, guns, rape etc... so I don't watch it. (I read and screen it for now) But movies have the same kind of stuff in them.
I don't watch many movies, but when I do, I cant watch when certin things happen, or when I think something will happen. I have to go do something else and try to calm down because it triggers things. It dos'nt even have to be a scary movie, it could be any type- comedy, drama or whatnot.

I avoid them now too because it increased my anxiety. I also cannot handle watching medical procedures in real life on tv....I used to be right in the or and have seen autopsies......this disorder affects my entire life. The hardest part is learning to live with it someway, somehow....one minute at a time right now.

They put me right over the top. I avoid them at all costs because they will cause me three days of hypervigilence and anxiety.
I can't watch any scary movies or any movies with violence. I have been able to watch some documentries, but sometimes even those can be difficult. Geez, I still have nightmares of the Wizard of Oz!

Haven't been a fan of those things since middle school, not my thing.
I don't watch any thrillers or horror movies, and veto most mysteries, too. I don't like the sensation of building tension. I won't watch movies with violence, yelling, etc. It's just too upsetting to me.
I tried recently to watch The Brave One with Jodi Foster and ended up spaced out and shaking, and scared for a couple of days. I can accept that I just can't take such films. They are too real to me.

I can watch them if I am in a certain frame of mind but the more violent they are the more I have a problem with them. I can't watch slasher movies at all. I'm more into supernatural thrillers. The less realistic the better.

I can't watch the really gory ones, but I can if it isn't to graphic. I do still get the heart palps, and somewhat scared, but I do try and tell myself it's just a movie. I spend most of the time hiding behind my shirt or just not looking at the stupid thing.

My mom thinks I am weird because I have never been able to watch scary movies. Hell, I have trouble with amusement rides. The merry-go-round is almost more than I can handle.
I can not handle being frightened. Period! ! ! I went to see Alien and that was the last time I've been to a movie. I spent the entire time with my head buried in my dates sleeve crying like a baby. Let's see. Alien came out in the 70's? ? ? Don't scare me. I totally loose it. So in answer to your question---I don't handle scary movies
Grama-H,
Whatever you do, DON'T go on the Alien ride/thing at Disney World. It's a sort of virtual reality thing, and I almost peed my pants!

Thanks everyone for sharing. I'm going to take a break from scary movies and see if I can handle them at some point in the future. If not, then so be it. I just find it strange I can't handle them anymore?
Peace
