New Guy - Combat Related PTSD

Hi all, my name's Brewz, nice to meet you all. :hello:

I am a 35 year old dad of little two girls here in the UK.

This is the first time i've joined a PTSD forum since being diagnosed with combat related PTSD 12 years ago from my time in the forces. I've had all kinds of therapies to try and help, but most were unsuccessfull.

However i've now settled into a good, manageable form of therapy with a guy that i get on really well with, it's not easy but i like to think it's easier than it was a few years back.

To be honest, i have shyed away from PTSD forums in the past as i did'nt think i wanted to hear about everyone elses events, incase they triggered mine off. Plus, and it seems weird me saying this, but i not overly comfy talking to people about stuff i went through, or go through now.

That said, i watched a programme tonight about ex-forces and homelessness, and it went on into PTSD. I guess i needed to hang in company that understands to a degree.

Anyway, enough of the boring stuff.......nice to meet you all and look forward to finding my way around the forum.

Hi Brewz, welcome to the forum. The best part about a forum is that you get to share as little or much as you feel.... and yes, you are within people who understand the thoughts and feelings you experience, regardless how PTSD evolved from your trauma, the outcome is the same for all.

I am still new here too. I had shyed away for some of same reasons. GREAT thing about here is the amount of anonymity you can choose to have. Share as much as you can or want, or stay away when you think you need to. I have surprisingly found a lot of comfort in reading other people's experiences. When I feel alone in the world, I come here.

Welcome to the forum. My ex-BF has combat ptsd and is just starting to emerge from his spiral of depression, anxiety, etc..that he had over the winter. He would love your screen name because he likes beer and likes to brew his own. He calls himself a beer snob.

Hello Brewz and welcome to the forum.

As a Vietnam vet I can understand about your concern with the forum triggering your PTSD symptoms. I think that's a natural concern and you may see it work in your favor eventually as you find your way through recovery.

You sound like a proud pappa with your 2 beautiful daughters - congratulations!
