When something triggers you and it gets bad, do you sometimes pass out? I'm asking because Thursday at work I was triggered by a few things and passed out multiple times. They took me by ambulance to the er. Does this happen to you?

I have not done that in years, HOWEVER, when I was a child I passed out all the time.
Mother says it was usually in public--which is a trigger for me now. I am agoraphobic.

I know that during my panic/anxiety attacks I sometimes will forget to breath and get
very light headed and dissy. Could this be what happened to you. I have to be very
careful to try and remember to deep breathe when I'm having an attack

I passed out once. Several years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with bad panic. I think the panic, combined with the dark and having just woken up really disoriented me, and the next think I knew I woke up on the florr with a bump on the back of my head. I was told that it is VERY rare to pass out from anxiety or panic, but it can happen.

Unfortunately it has happened to me twice in the past year. My blood pressure bottoms out and off I go by ambulance from work to the ER. I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it medically.

I don't think it is connected to the PTSD because on both occasions I was not triggered. Maybe a little stressed but that was it.

Thanks for all the posts! Thats a good idea Grama-Herc, to remember to breath. I'll think of that next time, well hopefully there isnt a next time, but it'll be in my head. Yeah, they told me it was quite rare too, and found nothing wrong with me (took ekg, ct scan etc...) and said it was probally the stress of the triggers. hum?? I'll have to learn to deal with them better :o)

This thread scares the crap out of me. All I think about when I'm having a panic attack is "oh god, I don't want to pass out". I never have and I pray to a god I don't believe in that I never do.

Yes I have passed out, puked etc. I thought for the longest time this was a panic attack. I recently learned that it is not. It is a rare form of flashback, where you relive the traumatic response in the same way you did the first time you experienced the trauma. I have never had flashbacks with it, just the whole pass out and puke episode. Makes doing public things lots of fun. If you are doing this, I recommend speaking with your therapist about it. I don't know much more about it than this. I will be learning more on it later.

OH, GREAT. You first Bec ... (ha, ha)

I have puked at the Dentist a few times which is definitely from a flashback. OK, I denied it but you are right.

One more thing to add to the list - yuk!

Breath people. We really need to remember to breath during times of stress and panic.

I still have all the attacks and things, but they are not quite a bad as before as long as I remember the deep breathing exercises

Once, my wife totally triggered me and I got really angry and started telling her off, and said, "And furthermore....I need to lie down right now..." and hit the deck. That certainly got her attention.

It has also been a rather effective negative reinforcement for losing my temper. ;-)

Just a bump on the head....not too bad. I survived but I don''t remember passing out...only waking up on the floor. I find that my arm is going numb now but that could also be from my back injury, with my spinal cord kinked.....thank goodness I was able to get back up.
