Default Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Statistics

Now, some interesting statistics of general PTSD. The estimated risk for developing PTSD for people who have experienced the following traumatic events is:

• Rape 49%
• Severe beating or physical assault 31.9%
• Other sexual assault 23.7%
• Serious accident or injury; for example, car or train accident 16.8%
• Shooting or stabbing 15.4%
• Sudden, unexpected death of family member or friend 14.3%
• Child’s life-threatening illness 10.4%
• Witness to killing or serious injury 7.3%
• Natural disaster 3.8%
Interesting really isn't it? This is another factor that veterans need to take into account, we are not actually the majority of PTSD cases within the world, just the obvious that are generally within the media for the type of service provided. The reason for that is, war occurs in numbers (thousands deployed at once), where the others occur individually, but only seconds apart daily around the world.
