I thought this was absolutely outstanding from all angles. This poor woman has suffered this, and stands to fight for PTSD on behalf of her deceased husband. Nothing short of absolute strength from Love. If this reaches you, then you can donate to the
Lehner Foundation directly.
Quote:
Sarah Farmer, the fiance of Sgt. Jeffrey M. Lehner, an Afghanistan veteran who (exactly six months ago today) tragically killed his father and then himself. At the time, he'd completed 2 years of counseling for his combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder.
Ms. Farmer said in her email:
Jeff was an honorable man with great compassion and intelligence with no prior history of violence. He served eight years in the Marine Corps with two of those years in Afghanistan (OEF). His murder/suicide is not indicative of his nature but of the nature of war and it's potential outcome upon the psyche of the American soldier.
To help those who are struggling with the same issues and demons that Jeff faced post-combat, I have since started a non-profit to help others to get help for combat related PTSD. We are opening a live-in recovery home in Santa Barbara California where veterans from OEF and OIF can stay for an extended period to decompress from the horrors of combat while receiving intensive treatment for PTSD through councelling, accupuncture, EMDR, physical therapy, etc. We would like to provide help to the families as well, in the form of video/audio education provided concurrently with the serviceman's residential stay in order that the families and spouses understand the nature of PTSD and it's effect upon the family.
