I should get Evie to come on here to answer you Jen. ;) This is definitely her area. If your husband doesn't have any game console, you may start from scratch basically. There are three major consoles which you attach to your television: Playstation (PS3 is the current one I believe), XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii. Nintendo is the cheapest of the three, but all gamers seem to have their preference for one or the other. Evie has always preferred Nintendo, however Colin and Jacob like XBox best. We have all three systems in our house and honestly I don't see much difference, though PS3 and XBox tend to have many more games on the violent side. There are several more popular games that are available on all three systems. What sort of games would he be playing on them Jen? Honestly I should try to get Evie on here for you, though she's not feeling so well at the moment.

ETA: Oh dear I just realized you said computer games Jen. So you want him to play on the computer? In that case Jen you need only buy the games, you don't need the consoles I mentioned above, thought it would be a good idea to know what kind of games he likes obviously.

Well if money is not a problem Jen, I would suggest XBox or PS3. As I say the Nintendo Wii is cheaper, however I believe the other two systems have many sports games on them, many more games in general than Nintendo. Evie tends to like Japanese games, such as Mario and Pokemon, hence Nintendo is best for her in that respect. The Nintendo Wii is also extremely difficult to get at the moment, in Canada anyways. Everyone wants one and the shops are all sold out.

hey Jen.. saw this and thought I could help. We have a playstation also and there are quite a few driving games of all sorts. They still sell the playstation 2 at $120 bucks or so and some games I know of are Driver, Need for Speed are some like racing.. there are off road types also with big 4-wheel drive trucks called Burn out Revenge I think and Midnight Club. There are stores you can buy used games too for lots cheaper then they are new.
anyways.. hope that helps!!!

Yep Jen the PS2 is fine, you can still play lots of games on it. You might even want to get a used system. Most of them have pretty good warranties. You can find them at game trading stores. If you don't want to spend too much then I don't recommend the PS3. Not sure about Australia, but it's retailing for around 500 dollars in Canada right now. The Nintendo Wii is way cheaper at around $260, but like Mum said they are super hard to find right now. People are paying double and even triple that amount just to get them. They're even being sold on ebay for outrageous amounts. The nice thing about the PS2, it's not the latest model, so there will likely be more in stock as well as being cheaper.

Jen, Also with the PS2, Not only can you buy cheaper games or used games for it.. but also all the games for a PS1 work on it too.

Ensure also that you pick up an extra controller as the console only comes with one and a few memory cards. Ask a clerk to help you pick, as there is a wide variety of them for all the different game consoles.

For racing I recommend any of the Need For Speed games.. lol my personal favorite!
