Default I've made a decision!

Well, I've spoken with my psychiatrist and the therapist that I want to start working with and, I've come to the conclusion that I need to switch for the sake of my recovery. Now comes the hard part... Telling my current counselor. I'm still worried about hurting her feelings even though my psychiatrist assures me that "she's a big girl." I have an appointment with her on the 12th and I'm going to tell her then. Please wish me luck guys as this is a very big deal for me. Until this is over my anxiety is going to be through the roof! Any and all support and encouragement is gratefully welcomed.

I'll check back in on the 12th and let y'all know how it turns out.

Thanks to all who have replied and given me the courage to get this far.

Take care all, Morgan

Morgan,

I think that you made the best choice for you. Well done. You will handle telling your old therapist very well. Great job.

Hi Morgan,

after working with my current therapist for 21 months now, I too have come to the conclusion that I am not making progress in the ways that I want to. So I asked for a referal to someone else and am now just waiting for a first appointment. Meanwhile, I feel like I am just stringing my current therapist along somewhat.

I won't leave myself without someone to talk to each week, so until I have actually checked out the new person, I won't allow myself to simply jump ship. And I am not looking forward to the day when I finally do say to the current one "OK, I'm out of here." But the fact is there have been problems for me in this situation from the start. But given that I am forced to stick with therapists covered by 'the state' (ie the CDN healthcare system) and there are not a lot to go around, I have given it my best effort.

Anyhow, I can relate to your struggle to come clear with what to do. Bottom lines for me: I have the right to decide what care is appropriate and beneficial for me. And I am not responsible for the feelings of any professional with whom I deal. That is why they are called professionals.

have them speak....then maybe with you in the room, take part......in your own healing process........they both want to help let them know what helps best.

Default Thanx for the help

Well, today was the big day for me. I've officially switched counselors. Yay! I did it and it wasn't that bad. It seems like I had more feelings about this situation than my counselor did. She just simply said "okay" and that she would talk to the other therapist about it this afternoon.

So the bottom line is, the only big deal in all this was my faulty thinking. Go figure, huh?

Anyways, thanx to everyone for your support and encouragement. I couldn't have done it without y'all.

Take care, Morgan

Morgan,

One of the unpleasant things about PTSD....We often THINK something is going to be worse than it actually is or turns out to be.

I'm so glad that things went well, and now you can continue on getting better. Great job!!!!!
