| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | List of Meds for PTSD and Depression? I am going down hill fast. I need to change meds and I am looking for a website or list of medications that are good for treating PTSD and depression. Anyone know of one? |

| | Hi Cathy, I think the medication should be based on your symptoms and not on the diagnosis.
I have intrusive thoughts so they prescribe Risperidol for that. If you don't have intrusive thoughts then you wouldn't want that medication.
Maybe you could google your symptoms and see what medications pop up for the symptoms and not the diagnosis.
Good luck

| | There's also the Medications section here in the Information forum. It's not inclusive but there are quite a few meds listed there that people have tried or have been prescribed. |

| | I DON'T have intrusive thoughts, but I WAS put on Risperdol for a time because the PTSD got so bad. I have to say, it did help. However, it is a VERY strong drug, and I had some issues with memory and recalling things such as the date and year when I was on it. |

| | Just do a search for rxlist and that is one website, as others are contained in the medication section. There is no such thing though as one conclusive list, because medications don't work like that. There are medications that are designed for other illnesses, though are used to treat some symptoms of PTSD, so a search for PTSD, anxiety or depression will not find those drugs. You need to seek out a specialist in pharmaceuticals IMO, someone who's job it is to find the best drug combination for you.... they exist. |

| | Your doctor should be the one to have this discussion with you. But, I take Effexor right now to help with the Panic attacks and Depression and Xanax for my sleeping and panic. I've been on Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Zoloft in the past all for my Panic and Depression.
These are just the drugs that I've taken or am taking but we are all different.
Best,
Rachel |

| | Well, I saw a pharmacist-M.D. on Friday and she gave me another 20 mg of Cynbalta to take at night. I have been taking 60mg Cymbalta mornings for 2 years and all the sudden last week it seemed like it just stopped working. Just stopped dead. I spent all the last week crying in bed, had a sex drive for the first time in years, I just could not get out of bed to shower or go out of the house to do anything. I could not move out of the bed from depression. Friday I called and got right in to see this one pharmacist-doctor, I also called to try to get names of psychiatrists who may change my Cymbalta to something else, and I made an appt in the pain clinic too. These are my back up plans in case plan A does not work out or my insurance decides to not cover the increase dose of Cymbalta. They are charging me two copays as it is. I am having waves of racing heart and panic, fear, crying spells, intrusive thoughts, feeling like I am drowning like I can't breathe, nervousness, I can't stand this. I will make more calls Monday. |

| | Hang in there 2quilt. At least you're being pro-active. You will get through this, I'm sure.
