I have not yet read this book, however I have ordered it for myself and my family to read. It is about the impact of combat trauma on the spouse and family, as well as the veteran. Dr. Aphrodite Matsakis has worked with PTSD sufferers for over 30 years and is the author of "I Can't Get Over It" which many consider to be a PTSD bible of sorts.
Matsakis says her book is intended to provide information on several key points: - reactions to combat trauma and ways to assess their severity
- communication guidelines for talking to veterans and with children about combat-related issues
- ways of encouraging veterans to seek help, as well as various types of help available.
- tools to help family members assess if their veteran, child, or they themselves need some kind of help, including counseling or therapy.

Thank you Morgan, I am touched. I would not say I am perfect by any means however I do try. I am sorry for the problems you have with your mother. I had lovely parents myself, and I always feel badly for anyone who does not. I cannot fathom it to be honest. Though considering the number of children Jim and I had in our home whilst we were foster parents, I know that sadly, it is fairly common. |

I received the book today, and it looks interesting thus far. I have only read one chapter however so I don't feel comfortable commenting just yet! I will comment on this again in a few days. |

That's weird, I just ordered her book "I can't get over it", and it arrived Monday and yesterday I started to read the first chapter, although I found it made me uncomfortable so stopped.
The contents page looked like it would be informative though so I will keep perservering. |
