| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | Another Person With Some Variety of PTSD Hello everyone,
I'm never quite sure what to say about my situation. I have multiple incidents of various levels of trauma that involve sexual violence of different forms - all experienced as an adult. I sought help mainly because I was having strange and frightening responses within a relationship.
My main symptoms have been anxiety, very frequent dissociation, shaking, occasional nightmares and flashbacks, memory gaps, shaking in my sleep, trouble concentrating, forgetfulness, and 'daydreams' of violent acts against me, by others or myself. My life is currently a weird paradox, as the rest of my life is wonderful I have a good relationship with my family, enjoy my work (when I can do it), have a great partner, and supportive friends. I adore my life I just wish I could play a more active role in it and feel more 'present'.
I saw a counsellor for a while about a year ago, who seemed to think I was okay. Things got a bit better, then worse again and I went to the doctor. I've now been seeing a psychiatrist for a few months. I'm trying to recover without drugs for the most part. I sometimes wonder if this will ever be over. I think my body is massively over reacting and I should just get over this - though I realise this isn't a necessarily helpful approach.
So far the following acronyms/terms have been tossed in my general direction: Complex PTSD, DESNOS, DDNOS, Panic Disorder. I don't particularly care what it's called I'd just like to get better.
It's a pleasure to meet all of you. |

| | I've tried a few times to post a thank-you for welcoming me, but it doesn't seem to have worked, let me try again!
Thanks for being so welcoming. This is a frightening voyage and it helps to have company! |
