What I want from a doctor I recently had something happen not only with a medical doctor but also with a psychiatrist. The medical doctor simply does not believe that I have this rare disease, which helped with my discharge from the military, and I have seen several doctor about over the years, and have been through re-evals from two different federal entities so I can continue to receive compensation. I own 3 wheelchairs and an electric scooter, and a multitude of other items to ease my pain and make life better. The medical doctor said my illness was not debilitating.
I simply won't go back to him since he is that dumb. It is obvious to me that I am not going to get what I want from him, and that is the willingness to be educated about my disease, and the intelligence to know from history and physical that I do have this degenerative and quite debilitating disease.
Then there was the psychiatrist who told my insurance company that he would do medication management. At the first appt he did my history, but since he was 20 minutes late to the appt, we ran out of time and he scheduled a second appt. During the second appt, all the doctor did was try to convince me to be christian. I am happy to be atheist, and even after I told him that, he continued for the entire visit to convince me that I would regret that choice, yada yada yada. He then told me that he would not do medication management for any patient.
I wanted med mangmt from him, and he lied to my insurance company, and in turn, me. I want simple honesty from my doctor, and I want him to be ethical. I want him to offer options for my care and not try to use deception and coersion to get what he wants.
I am writing a fierce complaint letter about him now, and sending to the state medical board, as well as every psych association I can think of.
If your doctor won't help you, get another one. You are the customer, and this is just like hiring someone to paint your house or fix your car. He can be fired the same way. |
