| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | Diet for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS or IB) Okay.. diet is the big thing for helping your IBS. If you can see a dietitian, I would highly recommend it.
What I know so far is: a high fibre diet controls IBS (as much as possible. lol) Us poor blokes that have this need anywhere from 30 to 50 grams of fibre a day.
Sources of Fibre:
High Fibre: - Bran based cerals (All Bran, Bran Buds, 100% Bran): 1/3 cup serving 5-12 g
- Beans (Lima, baked, pinto, kidney, great northern) 1/2 cup 6-9 g
- Flax Seed 2 Tbsp 9 g
- Fruits (apples, berries, kiwi, mangos) 1/2 cup 5 g
- Whole Wheat pasta 1 cup 5 g
Meduim Fibre: - Dried fruits (prunes, raisins, apricots) 1/2 cup 2-5 g
- Whole wheat grains (brown rice, bulgur, barely) 1/2 cup 2-5 g
- Cereals (Shredded Wheat, Bran Flakes, Grapenuts, Corn Bran, Oatmeal, Puffed Wheat) 1/2 cup 2-4 g
- Fruits (Oranges, pears, Strawberries) 1 cup 2-4 g
- Nuts and Seeds (Almonds, peanuts, sunflower, sesame) 2 Tbsp 2-4g
- Whole wheat breads )Pumpernickel, rye, whole wheat, bran) Per slice 2-4 g
- Vegetables (corn, peas, potatoes w/ skin, sweet potato, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrot, eggplant, turnips) 1/2 cup 2-4 g
So what I was told was make little changes every week. For example: I add in bran to my cooking, just a couple tbsps each meal. Making small changes helps you keep the changes. The high fibre helps your digest properly. So if your swinging one way or the other, add more fibre. Also if your a major coffee drinker like me, you have to cut the caffeine. I have by diluting my regular coffee with decaf every few weeks!
