Default MVA Trauma - Just Started Therapy

Hi All,

I was involved in a horrible car accident on 12/10/07, and hae needed to undergo many surgeries (both on my spine and knees) to get to where Im not in (as much) daily pain. I have just started seeing a therapist for my PTSD symptoms (and have been officially diagnosed) but I am having a hard time dealing w. my trauma, as Im a social worker - and am often on the other side of the desk. I guess I just have to deal with not knowing all the answers, and being the one who always "fixes" everyone else...

I too have been diagnosed with PTSD and as I work on the medical side of life I thought I should have all the answers. The thing that I have learnt (slowly) that I can't fix everything in my life or in others. When I stopped being a health professional and started accepting my symptoms without over thinking about how to fix it, I learnt to accept my symptoms and then worked on healing them. It was the hardest thing of my diagnosis as I work in the health field that I could not control my thoughts, flashbacks etc. I have not had a MVA but have had surgery to remake certain parts of my body caused by a rape and torture situation. If I can give you any advice it would be,
allow yourself to take baby steps
try to stop thinking like a social worker this has happened to you.
allow others to help you deal with your trauma.
write down your feelings
don't give yourself a deadline and congratulate yourself for any success'.
Take care, be gentle on yourself.
Robbed
