Ultram is a pain medication, and LDN is also used for pain too. I know several people on another board that are using it for arthritis pain. There isn't even a patten on it, most Dr don't like to prescribe it, and you need to have a Compounding Pharmacy near by to mix it for you.....
Has Dr prescribe these for depression?????? If so, I think I would be finding a new Dr soon. That is, unless you have some kind of chronic pain disorder.......

I have taken Ultram/Tramadol for chronic pain - it helped a little - but it actually made my depression worse (which is why I no longer take it).
I agree with She Cat - if a doctor is prescribing this for depression I would be asking some serious questions and more than likely finding a new doctor. If you have a chronic pain disorder - it's worth a try - you may not have the same reaction I did and more doctors are willing to prescribe it than narcotic pain meds.
I unfortunately know nothing about Naltrexone.

I have a chronic pain disorder and the doctor has recently switched me from Darvocet to Ultram. I was researching Ultram online and found that in addition to being a pain med, it also works in the same way as an anti-depressant. Some people have found it to be helpful. I was just wondering if anyone had found it helped depression for them too.

I take Tramadol for chronic back pain, I can get by without it a fair bit but when the pain is awful, like now I'll take it because when the pain is that bad I'll do anything to relieve it. The reason I'm not keen on taking it more often is that for me it causes severe depression, to the point of thinking suicidal thoughts. I've talked with the doctor about the depression link and she regularly tells me it's probably the chronic pain causing the depression....it's a bit what came first the chicken or the egg.
