| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | Yep... I must agree with my lovely wife... waking me up was better for me, even though I didn't remember the dreams anyway, I would still wakeup in the morning like shit, so her doing what she did, allowed me to go back to sleep and atleast get some rest without going back into whatever nightmare I was having.
Double edged sword though, and use plenty of commonsense, not laziness when waking someone with PTSD from a nightmare. |

| | veiled, that could totally be possible. Although I am never woken up by someone touching me. My partner calls out my name and reassures me until I wake up.
When I wake-up from a bad dream, I'm in panic mode, but usually settle down quick as I realize my surroundings. |

| | Yes, I am very quick to settle also. I don't really come up swinging as such, more instantly observant with fists ready to swing. This gives my wife often those few seconds to call me and tell me I was dreaming, so I go back off to sleep then. That hasn't happened though in some time... thank goodness. |

| | Ahhh see, huge differences there. I not only come up swinging and kicking, I can be half way across the house before I realize where I am, that I'm awake and not in that dream. The only person who can safely wake me is my partner. As he can tie me up like a pretzel faster than I can harm him. LOL, he's actually done that a few times too. He's got the training for restraints though (judo instructor). Strange thing is, I've never attacked the dog and she has woken me up by crying and licking me. That I just don't get.

| | yeah, when my husband is having a nightmare (he talks in his sleep a lot), I call his name several times first then I'll gently touch him while calling his name till he's awake. Then, I usually make him stay awake and talk to me for a few minutes before he goes back to sleep to make sure he doesn't have a "sequel" (lol, I hate sequels... I usually get those if I fall asleep right away after waking from a nightmare) |
