I can't say anything about Plano, never really been there. I did spend a lot of time in the DFW area. I really don't like it personally, but apparently many do as it is a big place! Dallas, every time I have gone through has been a pain, but is a great party town. At least it was in my younger years, don't see how it would change. I feel safer in Houston than Dallas and handle the traffic better. In Houston everyone does 80 mph, in dallas it is 55 or 75 depending on the car unless a traffic jam. At least in Houston even if it is like an Indy 500 everyone goes the same speed, there is a flow, Dallas, no flow. Out on the streets walking I prefer Houston, I don't feel safe in Dallas for some reason (vibes?).

But I would imagine job opportunities would be good with the way that area has grown. You have to deal with the heat, it gets pretty damn hot but isn't as oppressive as South Texas with its humidity like out here. Doesn't like to snow, but tends too sleet making black ice to slide on. If you get in a more rural area keep an eye out for copper heads hiding under *anything* and watch for cotton mouths around the water. And you have tornadoes, but it isn't that bad. I have them all the time right by me and I am still here.

Even in a city neighborhood don't be shocked if you peek over a fence to find someone raising rabbits or hens, even if against ordinace some still sneak them, and the deer hunters processing their kill or tanning a hide in the back yard! Also, Texas has a lot of feral hogs, so if you are in the country area expect them and have a gun loaded. Texas is over run with them and are considered nusiance. They cost millions in damage to crops and the like every year if not more. Out here you are encouraged to bag as many as you can.

Most people are friendly, traveling cross country I have to give them credit here. Texans seem more willing to stop and help with car trouble. People are a bit more open, which isn't always bad but if you feel withdrawn it can chase you into your home. But still watch your back in the work place. They can be very nice with some Southern charm touched in, but they will still backstab to claw their way to the top in a heart beat.

Is that the kind of info you were looking for?

yup, I work for Countrywide, they have a huge division in Plano... I was thinking of possibly transfering... considering that the average house around here ranges from 700k-1.5Mil, cost of living sucks!

OUCH! Well, if your income does not change you would probably be sitting pretty then. If I remember right the cost of living in California is at least 3x that of Texas. That was almost 20 years ago so my numbers are probably out of date! Judging by your average home costs it is out of date. For way way less you could get a pretty sweet little ranch in Texas.
