| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | Like I mentioned to you in my thread Scott, Canada is extremely PC... some of it is good I believe, but a lot is way overdone. The PC terms that really get me though are "peacekeeping", "peacekeepers", etc, rather than saying war, soldiers, fighting. I mean I know there's a difference between peacekeeping, peace enforcement, security assistance, etc... but here in Canada, when our Prime Minister called the situation in Afghanistan a war, a lot of people were offended. I don't think they realize what our troops are actually going through in Afghanistan and elsewhere. It reminds me of Big Brother's slogan in the book 1984, WAR IS PEACE. Creepy. |

| | Oh, and I forgot this, but thought I'd add...
In secondary school, I had a friend who was an achondroplasic dwarf. She was an excellent writer, and was offered the chance to write an editorial for the local newspaper. She decided to write about dwarfism. She used the word "dwarf" in her article several times. After the editorial was published, there was a whole slew of angry letters from readers who said the word "dwarf" was insulting and demeaning. Of course none of them actually were dwarfs or little people. I wish I could have seen their faces when she replied to the letters saying Umm ... duh... I am a dwarf, and I'm not offended by the term in the slightest! |

| | Hi Bec. Scott here. Sorry if I've offended you. I just feel that in the UK The PC Brigade have gone mad. The majority of people both ethnic and white agree that it is totally over the top. It seems that it is people in local council offices have nothing better to do with themselves. Fair enough if it offends someone, thats fine as long as they have a good arguement over the subject.
I seem to have opened a can of worms here. I have no anger over it. But it does get over the top sometimes in this country.
Cheers
Scott

| | Sorry Anthony, I've put my foot in it again. I just thought that it was a good subject to bring up. And I seem to have opened a can of worms. But it is great to hear everyone's views.
PS Congratulations on winning the Ashes.
Cheers Scott

| | Mate, that is ok, I think its actually a very good general thread that should be discussed, because lets face reality here, it is going on everywhere across the world. Groups cottoned onto the ability to skew the system, so they are taking it for all its worth. Instead of governments doing the right thing, and really looking at each based on factual realism, they are just approving things and making stupid rules based on popularity for numbers in the polls. Once again, the people who make the decisions, have lost their principles to numbers, the bottom line once again.
I really do admire and believe I am extremely lucky to be in Australia, where commonsense really does prevail here. This PC nonsense did start here years ago also, and they gave it a good run for a while, then the government had just had enough, and shut it down for the most part, with nothing new being approved unless it is based on serious facts with a lot of supporting documents, so I guess they just tie them up in paperwork, and for once, a very appropriate area for the old paperwork BS to be handy.
I can totally agree if the dwarfs of Canada all got together and partioned the word "dwarf" being offensive to them, but if that is the case, then what word would they use in lieu? Then when does that word become offensive also? The next generation maybe? It is like looking at the colour black, and not calling it black because that could be biased, so instead we will call black "the darkest colour of the spectrum?" I guess the thing that busts mosts bubble, is when a group of white people, average height and built rally around to tell people that the word "dwarf" is offensive, considering they have nothing to do with the dwarfism themselves. Kind off really punches home that fact, people are just bored and looking for something to put their name upon, so they can look back later in life and show their grand children how much they fu*ked up their own country with some idiot request they pushed to such points the government just caved to shut them up and get rid of them... until the next issue that is! |
