| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | Nugget vs. The Prime Minister After my appointment with a lawyer to find out if it was possible to claim moneys lost due to my accident and any further loss of earnings. I found out all i have is a story to tell this pissed me off to no end, one day you go to work the next thing some prick stuffs up your life and he gets his wish. I did not seek a lawyer out to get rich out of this mans gutless act, just i didnt think it was fair that i should loose anything i will never again hold the job i had for 15yrs when i return to work. I have been told that by my employers and i can understand that given what i used to do. At the moment i receive workers comp and my meds are paid for very great full for that it took me 15yrs to work my way up the company ladder to where i was comfortable and earning a wage that would allow my wife to stay home. Since my accident my gross wages have dropped 20% my superannuation from my employee have stopped and the tax benefits have all been lost all this comes about by some other prick.:angry-fla So with much frustration i started ringing and emailing my local pollies with my story wanting a answer it all fell upon sympathetic ears saying that it was not fair but it was the law. So angrier i became only to find out if i had of twisted my back, hit my head, any physical injury at all i could claim for that and PTSD. The workers comp does not cover for psychological injures it will pay your meds and your med app bills but you are left with the financial burden. So after months of getting no where i decided to write a 13page letter to our Prime Minister thinking i would not receive a reply but it was getting it off my chest. Well it happened i received a reply letter from the P/Ministers office "shit" was all i could say for the day it said that it was not his department but my letter has been sent to the right minister ok ive got further than i thought i was happy to be heard and forgot about it. My next appointment with my psychologist he told me he had a phone call from the ministers office and thought it was me winding him up they worked out it was true and ask why he was being questioned. The reply he got was some thing close to this he had written it down because he couldnt believe himself. The ministers office wanted to know about my accident and what i had claimed in my letter was true. Being my psychologist i hadent kept any thing from him so he told them. End of their conversation was that i have been dealt with wrongly and a ministers side kick has been appointed to the job to answer my letter and complaints i know it wont get my any where but i tried and i have been heard. | | Good on you Nugget. I fought the battle and won with a six figure (out of court) settlement in the Northern Territory, without waivering my rights to proceed to court, should I so wish. No disrespect intended, as I am not fully versed in S.A work and health, but I would think there are avenues available to pursue damages. There was a review held here in NZ at the end of last year involving a PTSD case, and the specialist was a 'well known Australian psychiatrist' who was to give factual and supporting evidence that PTSD does in fact result in a 'physical brain injury'. I would appreciate further comments on this from anyone who has relevant information pertaining to or against this thesis. |

Not sure if it counts as physical or chemical, but it shows up on brain tests. I had an MRI recently and it shows that my right hippocampal volume is reduced by 18%. There have been a few studies conducted in this regard, with combat veterans and survivors of sexual abuse. I'm not a combat veteran or an abuse survivor, however.
There's a thread on the forum here about child sexual abuse and reduced hippocampal volume relating to PTSD, that you might be interested in : CSA, PTSD, and The Effects on The Hippocampus | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
