OMG that positively sucks!! I'm so sorry. Do you lose your insurance immediately? Will you be getting another job? Please take care of yourself and hang in there.

Dod they have a good reason to fire you? Or they just don't want a person with PTSD working for them?

i can see why a employer wouldnt want a ptsd sufferer working just incase they have a bad day but i think it comes down to understanding what ptsd is first.
all the best and i really hope things improve.
hang in there, there is always light at the end of the tunnel as im finding out.

I'm sorry to hear this. I just went through this in mid-January myself. I beat myself up over it and was very angry at first. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise for me. I was put on disability, struggled through accepting that, and now I am reaping the benefits of it. I can catch sleep when I can now and work on myself rather than worrying about my stress levels and attempting to cope for society. I'm much calmer about not being able to function now.

I hope that your situation will end up working out the same.

BTW, shy of a doctor who can't help me.. all I have is this forum too and that's okay. It helps. Work on a diary (not sure if you have one or not) and work through this.

I feel for ya...

*hugs*

I lost my job last June.. My Dr. suggested I apply for Disability, which I got. It helps the $$ part of it, but my self esteem & identity took a huge hit. I'm trying to MAKE myself realize that I'm more than a Police Dispatcher. Its tough. Hang in there, like you heard from the others, maybe a blessing in disguise. (Thats what I'm beginning to think about my case). Use this chance to help yourself. Hang in there.. our thoughts are with you.

So sorry to hear about your job. I've been there before and it can be a really scary place to be. But hopefully life will have something better lined up for you soon. Take care of yourself.

BTW-have you spoken to your therapist about this and ask him/her if there's anyway that they can still help you-maybe delay the bill for quite a while? Also, don't forget your unemployment benefits. And talk to social services about medicaid and possibly food stamps. Been there before...a bit tough on the pride, but it helped us get over a really rough spot.

I did already apply for unemployment and foodstamps, but I was on unemployment last year when I lost my job in March and they were only giving me $137/week, which barely covers my rent. I'm praying that something comes along soon...

As for disability, I applied for it last year about this time and got denied. I have lost my last 4 jobs in a row now because of my migraines..I don't know how I didnt qualify! Maybe I should apply again...

Spokane, I am a retired social worker. A bit of advice for you about "the system" - if you have only applied for disability once, please do apply again. The vast majority are denied benefits first time round. This is the way the government weeds out malingerers and saves itself money. It's terribly unfair, but it seems to be effective in that many are discouraged and never try for benefits again. So do apply again please. The second time round is often more successful.

Thanks for the advice..I took it and applied again. I couldn't believe I was denied the first time...but now I have lost yet another job due to my migraine abscences since the last time I have applied, so maybe they will take me more seriously this time around. Fingers crossed...

PS..how long does it usually take to get a decision? It took about 2 months last time..should I expect the same this time around?
