| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | I'm New and Unsure If I Have PTSD - Witness to Friend's Trauma Hey everybody, my name is John, but if remembering that is tough, Archus works. I'm currently a student at Penn State majoring in Computer Science, but I'm thinking about switching to Neuropsychology.
About three years back, I was the witness to my friend's repeated trauma. I always thought that the flashbacks and re-imagining of the trauma was just my body going for stress relief. I'd cry about it, and my body would release endorphins and whatnot to make me feel better.
It wasn't until this past summer that I realized I might have PTSD. I was browsing through the psychology section at Borders, found "I Can't Get Over It," and thought, "That's exactly how I feel." Once I started browsing through it there, I just started crying because things just made a lot more sense with every sentence that I read. I still haven't seen a therapist yet or anything, right now I'm trying to learn more about what it is that I might have. I've been trying to read through "I Can't Get Over It," but school assignments and regular life always seems to get in the way.
I found these forums because I was doing my daily pages (a habit from The Artist's Way), and my last few sentences were about something that almost set me into a panic attack, and wondering what I could do about all of this. And so I thought to google "PTSD forum," and here I am!
As some random facts, I play the guitar, I juggle, I'm Roman Catholic, and my right eye has 20/20 vision while my left eye has better than 20/20 vision (AND I used to wear glasses for an astigmatism). I like to write also, and I'm going to try to compete in Nanowrimo again this year (hopefully it won't be failure number three this time, haha). My desk is very messy, and I like to keep a couple of index cards in my pocket so I can scribble down anything important that I see or hear at any time, anything from song lyrics to look up that I'll probably forget otherwise to school assignment ideas and reminders. I'm learning French this semester, and for the next few semesters as well, and I love speaking it, so if you ever feel the urge to throw a French phrase at me, I'd be delighted to read it and try to understand it.
I'm glad that places like this exist, and I'm looking forward to getting to talk with and get to know this community. |

| | Welcome to the forum Archus. I highly recommend that you see a psych to determine if you have PTSD or not. Although a person can have the symptoms it does not mean they have PTSD (confusing eh?) Also they can help give you a direction in which to go to heal from PTSD.
I Can't Get Over it is our bible. Although there are many good books out there. We have a recommended reading list too that might interest you.
