Default 911 Dispatch PTSD

Hi I have been struggling since I resigned my job after 4 years as a police 911 operator in 2006. I had more to say but it rambles on. I believe I am still suffering from PTSD.

Welcome to the forum.

I used to talk to another 911 operator on another site, she also had PTSD, and found that her job was a constant trigger.

Hope that you are feeling better.

Default welcome

Hi PD skratt

I use to be an 9-1-1 S.O. dispatcher of 15 yrs. There are others here from law enforcement as well as fire fighters and military and victims of various traumas. We are here and trying to help ourselves and hopefully anyone along the way.

hugs to you and your family

Take Care

Hi and welcome to the forum. I almost took a job as a 911 disbatch and then realized that it would be to stressful. I didn't know that it can cause PTSD.

I hope your symptoms subside and you feel better soon.

Peace
Tammy

Hi PDSkratt, Welcome,

...... one of many helpful things about this forum is that it's more than ok to ramble on.

It can and does help me sometimes, especially when I'm struggling, to do just this. I too have PTSD and sometimes I find discussing things, or simply getting it out and in front of me, quite beneficial. Messy or otherwise.

I hope you stick around, and find much help for yourself in many, many ways.

Welcome Aboard, PDSkratt.

Hope

My mom is a dispatcher for the sheriff down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Dispatch is a very stressful job. You are responsible for a lot, but actually have little control about what happens in the field. You also have to deal with injuries or fatalities that happen on your "watch".

Welcome to the forum... I hope you'll find it useful.
