Default Husband with PTSD - Doing My Best

I am Bella. I am in my late 20s and I am from Australia.

My husband had a motor vehicle accident 7 months ago and has developed PTSD with depression as a result. I won't go into any more details for now out of respect for him. I feel the need to check it is OK with him first.

Unfortunatley it seems he didn't get the right help and therapy he needed in the beginning, just medication. He got some bad advice, like "don't talk about it, don't think about it, distract yourself with whatever it takes." Unfortunately he was already a workaholic and this has only made it worse. He takes no time out for himself and he seems to have become even more bitter because of it. His processing has not even really begun I don't think.

At the moment he has shut me out. He has moved out (to WORK!) and has asked me to leave him alone. I have respected his wishes as best I can. Helping him is my motivation. He has been gone almost 3 weeks. I am reaching out wherever I can to make sense of it and to figure out the right thing to do - for him.

We only got married a little over a year ago. I hope that our love has yet to write in the history pages.

This forum is helping me a lot already and I say thank you. I think I may stay a while.

Thanks everyone.

Hey She Cat, thanks for your sorrow, but don't be too sorry for me. I have plenty of hope.

Welcome Bella, Glad you are finding a great deal of help and support here. Sounds like you have reserves of personal hope from within too, and certainly this is all good.

You have yourself a husb. whom suffers with PTSD. IMHO, you got either lucky or were blessed when you found this forum, bc it's filled with so much good, useful, applicable attitudes and support. There is also a variety of angles and info. regarding PTSD.

I've found and noticed this forum as very helpful to the understanding of PTSD; I'm the one with it in my adult family, but I continue to know and have known other sufferers.

Bella, I really do hope you stick around and continue to benefit. Again, Welcome to the forum!

Hope

Hi Hope, thanks for your welcome, and to the rest of you if I haven't thanked you already.

I am continuing to benefit from this forum with each and every log on. I am so grateful. it has boosted my hope which I have to admit was getting pretty feint for a moment.
