| | Hemi-Sync, Binaural Beats? hi, i started using this program called hemi-sync as part of my therapy, and was wondering if anyone else has used it and what they thought of it. im using a progressive 7 part program called the gateway experience. so far im having great success and i can really see the benefits of doing this longterm. if you dont know what it is just do a google search. i would recommend it but i would suggest consulting your physician first, especially for those with epilepsy as it effects the electrical signals in the brain. sorry, didnt mean to sound like a cymbalta commercial. |

| | This sounds interesting. Keep me informed of how you progress, and in the meantime I will research it further and see if it is something I might be interested in.

| | hey tammy, no problem. pretty interesting thing happened last night. theres a part in the program that has you envision yourself engulfed in an energy field. it can be anything, a membrane, static...anything. well the first night i tried this, or maybe it was the second night, i started the exercise and suddenly i felt as though i were engulfed by blue flames burning quietly in slow motion. it wasn't like a raging fire, it was very peaceful and comforting. well for some reason i went from the blue flames to this fuss, kinda like the white noise static you get from your tv screen. anyway i thought it was pretty cool, and i thought it was interesting that my energy keeps changing itself. maybe it means something a little deeper. anyway if i forget to update just send me a message and ill let you know how im progressing.

| | Hi Nate,
Hemi-sync and Binaural beats is something I researched a few years ago and I have a few CDs with music on them that use the concept. They are very relaxing to listen to. Is it CDs that you listen to?
I've also done alot of research on the Tomatis listening program. I became aware of the program several years ago and have done the program at the Tomatis centre in Sydney, a life changing experience. More information can be found by searching for ' Tomatis method' |

| | Nathan, due to your posts about this I bought a couple of the Hemi-Sync CDs through iTunes. (Did some reading on Monroe's site, as well as about the general idea at various sources online, first.)
I just wanted to say "thank you" for mentioning this here and getting me pointed in that direction. It was during Christmas and for some reason I was very anxious this Christmas season (entirely bizarre for me -- I have always loved Christmas) and I needed something to calm me down.
The Hemi-Sync music worked perfectly for me. It's kind of creepy ... when it starts up, I can feel my brain working (or doing something) as it gets "geared up" (my words) ... then I find it very, very easy to relax. I was able to turn the TV off on the nights that I listened to it (normally my TV is on 24/7) and I awoke in the morning feeling calm and positive. It was wonderful.
Incidentally, I suffer from migraines, which researchers believe might be an epilepsy condition. I take neurontin to treat migraines when I get them, and it works. However I've never, ever had seizures. The Hemi-Sync has (thus far) caused no problems with seizures, nor did it trigger headaches for me. In fact the migraines I had @ the time, calmed down some. At one point I was pain-free. (But that might well have been a result of the relaxation and not the brainwave activity)
Others' mileage will surely vary, but this is my experience, for whatever it's worth. Thanks, Nathan, for the tip.

| | bailey, that it terrific news. im so glad my advice paid off for you. thats very interesting about the connection between migraines and epilepsy. ive never heard of that before. i dont think its necessarily true in every case, meaning that i believe you can have one without the other. i have read some research papers about binaural beats and there are in fact some studies that show that they can reduce or even relieve the symptoms of migraines. so i hope it continues to help you in that respect also. thanks so much for posting this, you have really made my day.
take care,

| | Nate,
I got Dreamseed; Remembrance; and Baroque Garden.
So far I listen to Dreamseed almost exclusively. That is the one I really "feel" the effect from. And it is incredibly calming, OMG ... love it.
As an interesting aside... I have been really dizzy, woozy and wobbly all day today. I mean, really bad... like I will be standing still and the room will wobble and I just fall right over! I don't know what the hell is wrong with me, other than I am sick (have been for 3 wks) & have just developed an earache tonight, so I thought maybe it was an inner ear infection??? I have had a similar feeling to this in the past on a low-carb diet, in that case, about 6 oz. of Gatorade would fix it. (Electrolytes?) But I haven't been eating low-carb so that seems very unlikely.
Well I put Dreamseed on tonight. The first song, my ear hurt, and I felt pressure in the ear, and there was a snap and then for maybe 30 seconds I could hear brain noise? you know the high-pitched whine that your brain makes? -- but a really loud one, in my right ear, accompanied by pressure. It felt like ear pain, not brain pain (I promise!!). It went away after about 30 seconds and I continued listening to the CD. Well.......... at the end of the CD, I got up to potty and grab a snack and... I wasn't dizzy anymore. Wobblies are all gone.
Now how is that for weird?!?!
On one hand, it's cool, but on the other hand, it scares me......... I don't like it when I can't explain a physiological result. It weirds me out. I am a scientist at heart, I have to know the why's.
