| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | Hey All - New to Forums But Not to PTSD Hey..
I didn't know where to go so I was told to check out some on line forums to talk out some things about my PTSD..
Here goes...long story short...
I was involved in an auto accident while working (police officer) about 2 years ago. It was a "highway" accident and when the dust settled, I was surprised to be alive. My partner and I were physically hurt, but also had the telltale signs, I guess of PTSD.(Re-living the accident, dreams, moody, sleep problems, nightmares, etc.) By my nature, I am a take charge person. One of the biggest problems I am facing is that I no longer feel that way. I have people deciding everything from will I receive my disability pension to will my bills get paid. Not a good feeling for anyone I guess, but less so for a "control" person such as myself. Well, that's enough for a first post....let's see what you folks have to say.

| | Welcome willsee... forums allow that anonymity which helps you to speak openly, to atleast begin getting out what is hurting you so much, then take that new control back to your therapist and talk it all out with them face to face... |

| | Hey willsee -
I think you found a good forum here. It's tightly moderated so a safe place to talk. I've surfed some other forums that didn't seem very safe to me so I ended up here. I get that warm and fuzzy feeling here.
Like you I can't do all the things I used to do to take care of myself. Well . . . actually I takes all my energy to just do the basics like keep clean, make some food and try and make myself comfortable.
Its a good day for me if I can help my wife by washing the dishes or mopping the floor. And, ya man, I know 100% the feeling. 'Cause of the long term effects of the PTSD I got from Vietnam, I can't think as well as I used to . . . well, if I ever could . . . lol. But you know, that's a symptom for some, me at least. But the good news for me and I hope for you is that if I do the things that I know help like get enough sleep . . . insomnia is a real big problem for me . . . then I can think okay . . . well, better anyway. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
