| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | It's known as chatspeak or SMS. Learned it from my kids, they use it to chat and send messages with their phones. Don't use it myself though. Used to be a thread about it here somewhere. Though I haven't noticed it used much here.

| | I know what you mean. It's seems like a secret code that's only understood by a younger generation and IT people. And you would think the English language would be easier for those of us with different dialects once put into writing. |

| | Well. It is a kind of code with the kids. An attempt to say things so we parents don't know what they're discussing. For instance. POS means Parent Over Shoulder. And so on. However. Unfortunately for my teenager, I am wise to all of it. ;-)

| | As my husband says, it definitely is a code that young people use to try and get away with things. It is well worth a parents' efforts to learn the slang as much as possible, Jim and I certainly have invested the time to learn it and it has paid off, especially with our 3 youngest children. Though I do agree with my husband Doug; I have not seen much netspeak used here. Which thread(s) are you referrring to?
There used to be a thread about it here, however I believe it was removed with the latest forum upgrade. Jim and I use the following website for reference purposes:

| | I have to admit...I used to use netspeak all the time, though now I confine myself to the occasional LOL. I agree though that it is overused and what scared me into using it less and less is the fact that my spelling got worse over time...not so useful when one has to write academic papers :) |

| | PTSD & Web Acronyms Used Here contains a link to other topics. Net speak is its own language, a language one must learn to understand SMS / chat at times. Depending on the writer depends on how much or little they use. If any member used it here to the point of SMS use, the posts would be removed. It has limited scope in a forum such as this when you have a keyboard and ease to type your conversation without confusing people too much. A little, yes; a lot, no. |
