| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | Hmm, actually that's not true.
My dad was a heroin addict for most of his life and is now on a methadone treatment plan and has been for the last eight years. He has Hep-C, as do all of his friends, the ones that aren't dead, yet. Hep-C makes you extremely sick and incapable of working. My dad is 58 and is fighting with the system to get on disability. He mailed in one of numerous appeals, today. They won't even give him Medicaid. The reason? Because he is a drug addict. I'm sure it's different in different states but in North Carolina, they have no tolerance for drug addicts.
Luckily, he has me to take care of him. If not, he would be out on the streets because this state government won't do jack for him.
Around here, the more kids you have, the more money the government will give you.
Best,
Rachel |

| | Tammy, that's normal. Re-apply. You can also bring this to your congressman's attention.
Nothing discriminatory, just that they do that to see who fights. There are those that do, like you I hope, and those that don't. Those that do can fight and win. Those that don't lose out. Simple.
Wish I could help you more dear.
But you are in my prayers! |

| | Thanks everyone,
I feel better now. I spoke with the nurse and I think she will soften up on me.
I spoke to the one of the representatives of congress and she said she will mail me some info and I am to mail in right back to her for this 3rd appeal. Then she will make sure the hearing doesn't go on for years. She said she may be able to get it done in a month if I really do have PTSD and borderline schizophrenia.
There is hope!
Thanks

| | Absolutely! Believe in yourself Tammy. You cannot rely on others to believe in you so you can get things accomplished. Ya gotta believe in yourself. Any support you then get is a blessing and helps reinforce you. |

| | Tammy,
Yay!!! I'm so glad you were able to find some help. It must feel good. Those representatives that we vote into office should be utilized! Here's hoping your case starts moving along...
Best,

| | denied disability again and again i know how you feel in regards to social security, i was turned down 2 times, the 3rd time i got a lawyer. she got it for me easily. how could they expect me with all of my new mental problems to fill out all of those papers correctly. i had to give the attorney up to 5,000.00 depending on my outcome. i got approved and they had to pay me back 45,000.00 back pay. it made me so angry to get turned down because i knew i couldn't work, i couldn't even function at all. keep fighting for your rights...its your money |

| | I have never been able to understand the govt and the red tape they tie you up in. The system by which they decide who gets help and who does not is a mystery to us all.
My next statement will probably piss of some people but believe me when I say---This statement is not directed toward a single person in this forum.
Having been through the system trying to get the benefits I need to survive,(that are mine to begin with) I've come to "1" basic conclusion. There are people who do get benefits and we can not figure out why>Right? The reason--they lie. Those of us who try and try, fill out forms and answer questions, resubmit and start all over many times tell the true. WE jump through all the govt hoops and do their dance. The others--lie.
I am totally convinced of that. I've seen it! While trying to get some assistance with food, I watched people get hundreds of dollars worth of food assistance, go outside, get into their cadilac automobile, put their gold jewelry back on and go home. While I had to borrow the money to take the bus to even get there.
But again, I must stress that this my opinion, and that is all it is, and is in no way directed to anyone on this forum.
It drove me insane when I watched that happen over and over and over. Oh and by the way, I got help---I had to pay $32 to get $42 worth of assistance. May I say that I verbally expressed my displeasure with the outcome. Unfortunately, I forgot I was a lady and expressed myself more like a drunken sailor. I also explained to them just exactly where they could place their assistance.
Maybe not one of my better decisions but it sure felt good |
