Default Wife of a PTSD Sufferer Now Charged with Criminal Domestic Violence

I don't know what is going to happen. He really attacked me pretty badly. Have any other wives had this happen? He turned himself into the police, I didn't. Now we cannot even talk to each other for a year per judge's orders. It is really hard on me and my son. If anyone has had anything like this happen please let me know.

Welcome to the forum KBar. Hope you check out the Carers section too. Lots of support and good information to be had here.

My brother had untreated PTSD and was violent towards his wife and children. Wasn't man enough to turn himself in as your husband was. Ended up murdering his wife and son before turning the gun on himself. Myself, I suffered combat stress early in my marriage and was abusive to my wife also. We were separated for 7 months whilst I got help for myself. Difficult to be separated yes; but it was the best thing in the long run. We are happily married for 36 years now.

Consider yourself fortunate that your husband is willing to step up and take responsibility for himself. Difficult yes. However. If he gets help this year, it will be much better for all. You need to consider your own safety and that of your boy. Take good care.

Jim.

Welcome to the forum KBar, lovely to have you. I must agree with Jim (my husband!) that whilst difficult, this time apart may indeed be the best thing. Please try to consider this time as an opportunity for both your husband and yourself to improve on your lives, for your sake and especially the sake of your child. You said he attacked you quite badly; that is not something to be taken lightly. He does need help, and perhaps you should get help for yourself in the meantime as well.

Are you allowed any sort of contact... phone calls, letters, etc? In any event, welcome to the forum and please continue posting. There is much support and information to be had on this forum.

Welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry for what happened, but am glad your husband set a good example for his son by taking responsibility and turning himself in.
