Anyone else see Dr. Laura on the Today show yesterday, plugging her new book? Stop Whining and Start Living
Is she even a real doctor???????
She sounded JUST like my old therapist.
"We should all face up to our past experiences and simply move on. Compare ourselves to others who have it much worse than us. Stop moping around and self indulging ourselves!"
Oh my God!!! She really pissed me off!!! I was working out at the gym, and made a subtle comment about how her generalizations of people isn't accurate. That there are some circumstances where "just moving on", and "comparing yourself to someone worse" is NOT healthy for a person. The woman next to me totally disagreed with me, and felt "Dr. Laura" knew what she was talking about!
Give me a break!!!!
Sorry for venting, but she hit a nerve in me.

I have an older brother who thinks that this woman is God's gift...etc. He also thinks that Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Dubya are in the pantheon of gods/goddesses. There's no talking sense with him.
Obviously, "Dr." Laura does not want to understand the reality for folks who cannot just "get on with life."
A few years ago, there was a hilarious "letter to Dr. Laura" that was circulating around the Internet -- it was all about biblical Old Testament injunctions and what was a modern person to do, for example, when a neighbour stole your ass (donkey)...were you really supposed to stone him to death?
It was hilarious...and thought-provoking as well. I think that "Dr." L. was raging about homosexuality at the time, so that was a pivotal concern to the writer.
"Dr." Laura blathers on about whining. Perhaps she could take her own advice.

How bloody annoying that someone who dares call themself a doctor should be so flippant.
Like we have not already beaten ourselves up over the fact that we can't just move on, or that we should feel we are luckier than others (that is so subjective anyway).
I wrote some stuff in my diary today about my trauma - and I am afraid to go back into it now! I wish I could just delete it! I don't want anyone to read it and I don't want to!
I did it as I am trying to move on.....My pain is subjective to me and is not dimished because someone else may seem to be worse off! How can you quantify pain and suffering anyway!?
I guess her opinion is just about her ignorance!

Dr. Laura isn't dead yet?! Dear god, that woman was like 100 ten years ago.
And people really listen to her as if what she says is rational?!
I'm completely astonished once again by the American public.

I once saw Katie Courick interview Ann, Ann had of course written something nasty about Katie and I swear I thought Katie was going to jump out of her chair during the interview and slap Ann, at least that's what I was rooting for.

It's just sad that the biggest assholes have television shows, microphones and can add "Dr." to their names to deceive the public into thinking that the shit they are selling is true. |

I can't help myself. I'm on a roll. It appears that "Dr." Laura has had so much facial plastification that I'm amazed she can open her mouth.

I remember when I was in the throe's of PTSD, I was in a very bad way. My sister in law told my wife to just listen to Dr Laura. Within 1 day, our marriage almost ended in divorce, and it was week's before we worked things out with an excellent counselor. The counselor couldn't stand Dr Laura, and he was right. I think she is a menace to society.
On another note, please do not equate Dr Laura and Rush. These are not the same kind of people. I am a conservative person in the realm of politics. Dr Laura is not representative of a conservative. IMHO, she is representative of a NUT!!!   |
