Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now.

Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year.

Default Intro - Iraq For 2 Years
Brad Brown here. I have PTSD. I am in the Army stationed in VA. I was in Iraq for 24 months. I am still fighting this PTSD, still, after being home for over 2 years. It doesn't get any easier. Hopefully this will help a bit. Good day.

Some good advice I've got here within the forum is, to just accept my PTSD and not fight it. I was told that the more I fight it, the more negative emotions I would cause, and hasn't this been true for me at times.

It was recommended that I accept it and work with it so that my life might continually become better. Having had PTSD for many yrs. now, my experience is that life with PTSD can get easier and can with proper treatments, time and process and continuing healing work, again be satisfying and even deeply enjoyable at times.

So Brad, Welcome and I do pray that life does become easier for you as well.

Just another way of thinking about this: It hasn't gotten any easier, yet.

Hello Brad,
Welcome. I am learning about ptsd myself...my boyfriend/ex-boyfriend/whatever he is right now....has ptsd from serving in the Army also. He was diagnosed 4 years ago and most of the time does quite well. But...then a trigger happens and he spirals downward. That is where he is right now.

Get counseling, stay with it, take the meds and stay strong. You and every other person with ptsd deserves to have a happy life. I can't wait until there is an acutual cure.

Hi Brad, Welcome to the forum and thank you from a veteran. I appreciate what you've sacrificed for our country. The National Center for PTSD is a wonderful program for veterans and active duty. It can really help you get your feet underneath you and it does start to get easier. If you're interested talk to your Dr. they should be able to get you a referral.
