Default What is Your Favourite Music

One of my hobbies is exploring different sorts of music. There are so many songs and even styles of music that I've never heard and even if I don't like a song I like to know what makes other people like it. I want to hear what they hear and I want to appreciate the creativity of the composer. This has led me to like some probably very strange songs. The CDs I make are usually all over the place and can contain a piece by Mozart followed by a Japanese pop song followed by something heavy metal with screaming.

So I am curious, what is a song or musical style that you like, and maybe a bit about why?

Celtic music is my favorite. The music just flows so beautifully and I'm Irish.

I love music. Gosh. A favorite song? - Dramamine by Modest Mouse.

I feel like I'm floating through space whenever I listen to Modest Mouse, especially their album "The Moon and Antarctica". All of his songs seem to build to a climax and then slowly fall back again, and I like that cyclical nature of the music (which I think also lends itself to the space like feeling). The lead singer is very sarcastic and self-deprecating and says some of the most bizarre things or makes the funniest comparisons and it's as if he lives inside my head. I just *get* it. The music speaks to me, as cliche as that is.

Beyond that...I love sooooo many other bands and musicians.

I LOVE country music, which is strange considering I'm a hard-core northern liberal who has always lived in or near the city. My college roommates got me listening to it, and I've been hooked ever since. I love how it tells a story and is filled with emotion.

I don't have an all time favourite. It all depends on mood and circumstance. But lately I have been enjoying "The Mamas and the Papas" (Egad am I ever old!) Even their melancholy songs are so beautiful they are cheerful somehow. And then again, their brilliant harmonies on even the happy songs can make me cry.
My favourite classical composer is Mahler. He can destroy the universe with a thundering crash and then tenderly build a new one. Why is it that I can relate to that?

I was just thinking about some foreign music -

There's a Swedish band called Kent that I really dig - one my favorite songs by them is called 747.

There's also a French guy named Yann Tiersen, he did part of the score for the movie Amelie, his music is absolutely beautiful, very melancholy but at the same time has an amazing movement to the music, I always picture myself on a train whenever I listen to his songs.

For a while I have just listened to Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and some Korn from their "Life is Peachy" CD. I have all of Alice in Chains and Nirvana's CDs.

Default Tough one...

This is a tough one...but I still wanted to post in this thread so here it goes...
For me it depends on the mood, and if I like some songs or pieces by some artist or group, it does not follow that I religiously listen to all of her/his/their stuff.

SO...I like a bit of everything, though country and hiphop not so much...though there are exceptions

But I'll listen to anything, from Mozart, Chopin, Vivaldi to Bob Marley and Abba...Gun'n'Roses to Alicia Keys...Madonna...Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin...and if I'm in a sappy mood I'll even go for Celine Dion

I don't know if any of you Canucks remember the Tea Party...I love thier stuff
I also like Matchbox20/Rob Thomas...I love Jully Black's rendition of "Seven Day Fool" but I love hte original too...I could go on and on and on...

Ok...I do not like pop a la Brit Spears or anyone who does the same thing

All right, enough from me on this
