| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | The Importance of Getting a Good Doctor I've just been reading the threads on PTSD diagnosis. It's hard to believe but there are psychiatrists out there that don't believe that PTSD exists. I ran into one a few years ago. He insisted that I was bi-polar because PTSD did not exist and because I believed it did it only meant that I wanted others to feel sorry for me! I wrote letters to the local Medical Society, the state board of medicine, the state psychiatric board, his superiors, etc. and all I got were angry letters back stating that no one else had ever complained about him (I don't know if I'm allowed to state his name or not, so I won't). I guess I just want to say that if you suspect you have PTSD and get a quack like I did, separate yourself from the doctor and seek other help immediately. If I had believed this doctor, I shudder to think where I would be today. |

| | this ill depends on ormons. when we are in a stressing situation, our organism reacts producing more ormons to face the emergency. but when the stress is very hard or very long, or both, the mechenism of the production of ormons can be altereted. these are facts.
think that the neuronal connections are for more than the 80% made by ormons (and not by electricity), and that neuronal, endochrinal and immunytal
systems are a unique net of ormons.
in fact, for exemple, i suffer of losses of memory, of the addison ill, of ipothyroidism, etc etc.
i could suggest you some scientific pubblications i read, but they are in italian. but surely. if you search for "ipothalam-ipofisis-thyroides axes", you will surely find what i am talking about.
take care!
ps. sorry for my english!

| | When I first suspected I had PTSD I was told that only combat soldiers got it. I now have a real diagnosis from a real psychiatrist and it has totally changed my life. There is help out there if you just keep looking. I AM GETTING BETTER BECAUSE SOMEONE FINALLY RECOGNIZED WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME AND WANTS TO HELP. |

| | RefuG,
I have complained many times about bad doctors to the state board of medicine, and I have received the same response, as if it's all my fault and that no reasonable person would ever make a complaint about that perfect doctor. How Dare I complain about that salt of the earth doctor sitting at the right hand of god!
I once had a medical doc bring into the exam room a balding man, wearing golfing clothes, and then try to convince me to let this man stay during my examination with me in a paper dress because, in the doctor's words, "He wants to study medicine!"
The complaint I wrote would have burned the reader's hands, but the state did nothing to that doctor. Instead, I received a letter telling me that I was forbidden to see any of the doctors in that entire building.
The point is, you did the right thing by complaining, and whoever tells you that 'nobody has ever complained against that doctor in the history of the world' is feeding you bullshit. Bad doctors have people to cover up for them until they eventually lose their licenses. Patients should know more about other patients' experiences! |

| | Just to put in a word for good doctors (because there seems to be a lot of negative about doctors on here! I'm sorry for everyone who has had a bad experience) I've been really lucky.
I saw my GP who suggested I might have PTSD and immediately referred me to a psychiatrist. Both have been really kind and helpful, and I do feel that psychotherapy has really helped me. I am really grateful to have access to this care, and particularly that it's covered by the province. I am getting better, and I am very thankful for the help I've received. |
