| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | I Started Exercising This may be small in comparison to the other rather large accomplishments posted here, but I finally started exercising! Me, the hubby, Lina, and the puppy all went for a brisk 2 mile walk today. Not much, but better than what I have been doing in the past - nothing! Tomorrow, we are all doing the same thing. Yay! I did notice that it curbed my appetite for junkie snacks and I craved a nice ham sandwich instead. I was really exhausted afterward but pushed through the exhaustion, didn't take a nap and I'm still going at 10:30 and just now I am starting to feel sleepy! I'm happy about this.
This is all part of my grand plan to move past the meds and into a more natural healing state. My husband already has a really cute vintage-esque looking Trek bicycle picked out for me and I'm hoping I'll be getting a nice surprise present soon, *fingers crossed*, so I can start bike riding. |

| | Good for you. It's not a minor step it's a major one. So don't knock it down.

| | I agree with bec and upstream, getting exercise is no easy accomplishment. If it were, we all be doing in with simplicity and regularity. Great job! Walking is awesome excersize, too. It can really be enjoyed, is naturally uplifting, de-stressing and as we know, healthy. ...Very, very Healthy! Keep up the good work Rachel and perhaps establish yourself a structured time and routine. I've heard it takes only 30 days to form a habit, and a lot longer to break one. If this be true, then in another 29 days, you'll have established one heck'a'va healthy coping defense, healthier heart and some strong legs. Something, I'd love to have established back in my life again! Hang in there, keep up the good work and keep us all posted please. Fingers crossed for the trek bike,
and take in some more care and health!

| | Way to go! I am so proud of you. It is awesome it has become a family goal with built in support! You go girl!
My only New Year's Resolution is to begin exercise, drop some pounds - which is a major issue that involves many aspects, and quit smoking. I don't tell anyone my resolutions because I don't want the continual prodding by anyone. I do enough beating up of myself - I don't need more.
I have walked about 3 times since January, OK, not doing so well. Eating is still an issue, almost quit smoking twice and still working on it. Overall - not doing so well BUT still working on all three. By December, all will be in place and NEW habits. Unfortunately I have no support system in place yet.
One of my favorits sayings about changing life patterns is - "Change is a process, not an event!"
Keep on trucking!

| | One more thing ... I just remembered - look up area bike paths you and your family can bike on and maybe plan a trek with picnic. Locally there are many available here along rivers, canals, in State Parks. It is great to have a destination in mind rather than mileage.
Also there are books available in every country that describe bike routes of varying difficulty and lengths to 'tour' different areas on different type bikes. In the US they are often done by States and a frequent title is '50 bike tours of Vermont' for example.
Just for fun, look some up on the internet - Amazon, whatever to check out the resources. In the US I know the National Park Service also has biking information for each park.
It will be fun to just explore the new opportunities you will have. |

| | Thanks, everyone! There is something called Rails to Trails that I would like to explore once I get the bike - old railroad tracks converted into bike trails. And Cindy, yes on the basket and bell! Of course, I want a little rear-view mirror on the side, too. My poor husband, he has to put up with my excesses. |

Isn't that what husbands are for? (lol)
Have fun with the bike! |

| | Good Job! Thanks for giving me something to think about and helping me put the cheese popcorn away for now. Kudos to your hubby for being right there along with you on the walk. Keep up the good work and have fun. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
