| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | |

| | New Here - Just Diagnosed With PTSD Hi
I was just diagnoses with PTSD two weeks ago along with anxiety and depression. Being a middle aged male, I didn't' seek help because of being so ashamed and too afraid. So all my life I've lived in fear of people, and in, what my psychiatrist calls, a dissociated state, I have sleep problems, anxious dreams, nightmares, and images in my head of past childhood abuse. And huge gaps (years) in my memory. I get so exhausted form the anxiety.., I can't talk with people without shaking, can't concentrate...
Enough said, I don't know if I should be here.

| | Tammy, Anthony,
Thanks for the welcome. As I read more posts, I do see the similarities. On one hand this is reassuring, but on the other, it can evoke anxiety when someone else's experience nears my own. This is probably true for everyone here. Still, I feel very ashamed and afraid like I want to cover my computer with a blanket so no one sees.
Take care and again thanks,

| | Hello cec, and Welcome to the forum. It's true, pre-existing anxiety is easily greatly increased when someone else's experience is similar, ...and similar they often are.
We no longer must always feel so alone in our illness. I'm glad you found us and hope you read, learn and continue to share within the forum, while getting to know many of us and us you. Take care, cec.

| | Hello again cec,
I identify with your long-lived feelings of shame and fear. I too have spent much, if not most of my life, afraid of people.
It may be a challenge to believe that this can get better and social skills allowed to increase, with a real decrease, and even disappearance of fear of and anxiety around people, but I know from experience that this can and does get easier, even easy at times. Cec, we're all equally special, so there is always the possibility that if you're committed to your therapy, honesty and healing journey, and if it's your desire to know others and not be afraid of them, I really, really believe this can come to be, in process and in time.
Just wishing you the best,
Hope |
