| | Notices | Welcome to PTSD Forum. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer. If you're involved in any way with PTSD, get registered and help yourself now. Non-active members will eventually be deleted. If you are not a sufferer, carer or someone within the mental health industry, and active, then there is little reason for you to be a member of this forum. Non-active members with zero posts are deleted periodically during the year. | | |

| | If You Where an Animal, What Kind Would You Be? I was recently asked to describe to someone the best way to approach and handle my PTSD. Much to my surprise this answer came out!
I am like a small, untamed puppy. You never know what I am going to do or how I will react.
If you reach out to touch me and I might:
1. wag my tail and be happy to see you
2. then again I might just bite you
3. I might run and hide under the bed
4. other times I will just get scared and pee on the floor
5. I may come when you call me and I may not
6. But most of the time I am just scared. Very very scared.
Bringing a scared puppy out of it's shell is a long a tedious process. Sometimes it never works and the puppy never comes around.
So this is my question. If you were an animal, what would you be?
Describe how you react to situations as that animal, etc.
I'm not nuts, I just think my unconscious reaction to the question I was asked is interesting that's all |

| | My first reaction is to say a cat, due to my love of my little feline companions. However, everyone has always called me "mouse" because I'm small. When I think of the PTSD, I think a mouse is appropriate. I can be playful and all, but have you ever seen how a mouse reacts when it is put into a cage with a snake? They shake uncontrolably, and I've heard that they can even die due to the fear and anxiety. Well, that's how I am when it comes to the trauma. I am like that little mouse who knows it is trapped and will be hurt/killed. This is how I reacted during the traumatic events as well as how I act now when trying to confront them. |

| | I'm a box turtle! I can close up completely at the first sign of danger, and I do most things deliberately. Plus, I don't bite. |

| | A bird Free to fly with the wind
(Going with the flow of life and feel good about it)
Live in harmony with "birds of a feather"
(Understand "my own kind" without judgment)
Know when mother nature is going to be fierce
(Learning to react to instincts properly)
Fly South in the winter to be by the ocean (Loving to travel to different places, esp. water and warm air)
Sing/chirp a song when spring comes (Happy for new growth from the earth)
$hit on someone's car after they wash it (The mischievous side of me) LOL
On the flip side I don't like the thought of eating worms or bugs, and as an animal I would always have to be on the lookout for a predator ready to eat me. The cycle of life insists on this for survival. |

| | I'd be.... a dragon!! Guess cos it would make me feel powerful and strong which is the opposite to how I actually feel!
Has anyone seen The Golden Compass? I'd be Pan... because I could change into many animals and I'd have someone who I'd never leave and could never leave me... *gag* how sad is that?
Or... a doggy.... a puppy for all the same reasons Grama-Herc said!!
I LOVE sunnydaze's reply LOL!!!!

| | I guess I need to clarify my orginal question. I wanted people to compare their symptoms and feeling to a type of animal that would be describe them.
