Default One Year Off Of Medication

One year ago today I took my last dose of klonopin. I've been medication free since. Although I'll be the first one to admit to craving it (sometimes almost unbearably) when life gets hairy. It's the same type of craving I get for cigarette and I quit smoking three and a half years ago.

My husband, my mother and even my therapist (although not to the degree of my family) all recommended that I get back on the meds when the withdrawls were at their worst. I guess I'm just too damned mule stubborn to give in because once I took the step of getting off the meds, I had no intention of getting back on them.

The most important thing I learned after the meds was that the progress I had made was progress that I had made...not from the meds. That knowledge has helped me in my recovery more than any other single thing I can think of.

Being off meds is a great feeling, even if sometimes the feeling of needing them is still there. It's still nice to know that you can get through on your own. Congratulations.!

Thanks guys! It's kind of funny that no one else (here in Lisa Land) seems to get the real significance of this. Oh well...I do and that's all that matters. And that y'all here get it is great, too.

I recall the Saturday we spent together talking and relishing in the fact that there was a person with the same issues sitting right there. We compared our lifes and feelings and issues. It was such a relief to sense "Gee, it's not just my imagination". What I feel IS real".

I also recall the concern I had, and expressed, when you stated you were going to go off your meds. I am so glad I was wrong. Kudos to you for this accomplishment. You did it and through some difficult times s well.

We just don't acknowledge our progress often enough. We sometimes don't give ourselves enough credit for those "baby steps" we make. And we should
